What the heck is wrong with willy?

By:Pedro Rodriguez SWO contributor
As many Reds fans have seen Willy Taveras has not been great at hitting or getting on base so far this season. So why is that? I think that he is trying way too hard, sorta like Jay Bruce was, he is swinging at almost everything, and never hits it. Willy Taveras needs to understand that his team needs him, and he does not need to try too hard to get on base. Hopefully Willy will understand that, and will be more productive.

What to do with the 2 productive catchers?

By: Jeremy Mays
This is going to be a tough decision for Dusty Baker to make when Votto returns. Do you put the veteran catcher Hernandez who can hit okay back at starting or do you trade him for a someone that you need at another position? Do you keep Ryan Hanigan who is swinging the bat well this year and his hitting .303 on the year and is just as good defensively as Hernandez? You don't just sit a hot bat on the bench He is the hottest hitter for the Reds right now. The Reds had a similar situation in 2007 when Josh Hamilton surprised the baseball world with his talent and they had to look for a place in the log jammed out field to get Hamilton some playing time. No doubt Joey Votto is in the starting rotation at 1B where Hernandez is playing right now. I think Ramon is on the down side of his career and is facing becoming a 1st baseman in the future anyway. Hanigan is 29 and Ramon is 33. Or do the Reds trade Ryan Hanigan while he's hot and keep Hernandez for the last few years he will be effective behind the plate and offensively because the majority of catchers as the near 35 always hit a decline in there career and there numbers fall. If the Reds take that route of keeping Hernandez and trading Hanigan, look for 2007 1st round draft pick Devin Mesoraco to make his MLB debut. It's going to be a tough decision for Dusty Baker to make and a decision I'm glad is not mine to make.

What's new with Joey Votto?

By: Coop Ledford
Joey Votto has been on the DL for some time (or if you're a Reds fan, a lifetime) from stress-related issues. News from Fox Sports Network Ohio says that Joey did take batting practice this week. Also Dusty Baker said that Joey should be returning soon. The Reds are anxious to get Votto back in the game, without Joey the Reds have averaged UNDER 3 runs a game. With the Reds being on a 4 game losing streak, they need the best hitter on the team back.

2009 Buckeyes.

By: Tigertank3000 SWO contributor
My 2009 Ohio State football season prediction is finishing 11-1 in the regular season winning the big ten with the one loss to USC, I know that they have a inexperienced QB but I still have a feeling that we won't win this next game with USC (you can't beat payed referees). I think that Ohio State will go undefeated in conference record ranked possibly #5,#4, or #3 in the BCS standings if teams like Oklahoma or Texas have a conference loss with each other. The only teams in the Big Ten that may have a threat to our BCS Bowl bid (like the Fiesta or Rose Bowl) is Wisconsin, Iowa ,and maybe Michigan, but i am 99% sure Ohio State WILL NOT be going to the national championship game(with respect). But may go to a BCS bowl game.

Reds lose game 1.

By: Cooper Ledford
Matt Maloney started in his 2nd MLB game, trying to get his first win. Maloney pitched 6 innings, gave up 6 hits, 4 ERs, 2 HRs, only walked 2 batters, ans struck out 5. Early in the game Billy Butler hit a solo homerun to make it 1-0, Kansas City on top. The Reds would come back in the top of the fifth to tie it up when Johnny Gomes hit a solo homerun. Sadly, that's all the Redlegs would get in the game. The bottom of the fifth DeJesus hit an RBI single to to give Kansas City a 2-1 lead. Then later in the bottom of the sixth, Callaspo hit a 2 run-homerun to make it 4-1, Kansas City. That score would be the final, sending the Reds to be 2.5 games behind 1st, and 3rd in the NL Central. Maloney loses and goes to 0-1, Hochevar goes to a 2-2 record and pitched a complete game. Watch the Reds and Bronson Arroyo tomorrow on FSN Ohio at 7:10.

The Cincinnati Reds have 4 players on the DL, Edinson Volquez, Bill Bray, Edwin Encarnacion, and the great slugger, Joey Votto. Here is the updates on the 4 players. Bill Bray: Out for season with a torn elbow ligament. Edinson Volquez: Elbow teninitis, should return in about mid-June. Edwin Encarnacion: fractured left wrist, unknown when he will be back, MRI on June 15th. Joey Votto: Stress-related issues, very unlikely to return when supposed to, June 14th. THIS INFORMATION WAS FOUNT ON HTTP://WWW.REDS.COM

Lefty will try to take game 1.

By: Cooper Ledford
Reds LHP, Matt Maloney will appear in his second MLB game. In his previous game vs. the Chicago Cubs he only allowed 2 runs to score while he was on the hill. In that game Maloney stuckout 4 batters, allowed only 1 walk, 6 hits, and only an ERA of 3.00. In that game Maloney also showed Reds fans that he can hit! In his first at bat in the big leagues Maloney hit a single! Matt Maloney will try to get his first win and hopefully will show Dusty Baker that he should be in the Reds pitching rotation in the 2010 season. Watch Maloney pitch tonight at 8:10pm on FSN Ohio. Q&A between the SWO SPORTS CEO's

Jeremy's thoughts.
Q: How do you feel about Inter-leauge play?
A: I love it. I enjoy seeing the teams in the A.L.
Q: How often do you think inter-league play should take place?
A: Every other month so we can see more teams from the other league and get are games in vs N.L. opponents
Q: Should Inter-league play allow both teams to use a DH?
A: I look at it this way, they should have a DH in both league's parks or no DH at all in either league.

Coop's thoughts
Q: How do you feel about Inter-leauge play?
A: I think it's cool, but i like same league play better
Q:How often do you think inter-league play should take place
A: 1 series every other month.
Q: should inter league play allow both teams to use a DH?
A: Either both teams should ALWAYS have one, no matter what league, or no DH at all in any games. I don't really support the DH, i like the classic way and more traditional way of baseball.

By: Jeremy Mays
Well, neither Adam Dunn nor Austin Kearns did so hot this time vs. the Reds. Dunn, who started in all 3 games went 1 for 10, with his only hit being a single today in Game 3. Austin Kearns went 0 for 5 starting in RF in the series finale. The Reds won the series taking 2 of 3 games from the Washington Nationals. Be sure to catch the Reds as they are on the road for inter-league play in Kansas City this weekend. Game 1 will be a showdown between Matt Maloney (0-0) vs Luke Hochevar (1-2).

Reds heading to Kansas City.

By:Cooper Ledford
The Cincinnati Reds got on the plane from DC,after losing to the Washington Nationals and are heading to Kansas City, Missouri. The Reds will have the new pitcher (whom is filling in for Edinson Volquez) Matt Maloney try to beat the Royals. The Royals will have Hochevar on the hill trying to make his record even at 2-2. If the Reds can get on a winning streak they can take first in the NL Central. Game 1 is on FSN Ohio at 8:10 et. Game 2 is on FSN Ohio at 7:10 et. Game 3 is on FSN Ohio at 2:10 et.

Game 3.

Reds in game 3 of the series had Micah Owings on the hill (3-7) looking to get the brooms out in Washington. In the top of the 2nd Rosales singles to score Gonzalez, it's 1-0 Cincinnati. Top of the 4th inning A-Gonz hit an RBI to left to score Johnny Gomes. The score was now 2-0 Cincinnati, unfortunately for the Redlegs that's all they would get. A gronder was hit to Jerry Hairston Jr. that got the force out at third as the run scores to make it 2-1 Cincinnati. Later on in the bottom of the 8th, the Nationals get it done with 2 rins to make it 3-2 Washington on top. The runs were scored by a throwing error by Reds secondbaseman, Brandon Phillips. Reds could not get any runs in the 9th as it was a 1,2,3 inning. So the Washington Nationals win the game 3-2. The winner is Tavarez The loser is Danial Ray Herrera. Watch the Reds in Kansas City at 8:10 tomorrow on FS Ohio or listen on the Big One, 700 WLW.

Reds can't sweep the Nats.

By: Cooper Ledford
The Cincinnati Reds were looking for their 3rd sweep of the season. The Reds unfortunately could not get the sweep and the brooms will not be taken out. So the Nat's record will be 16-42. Reds record is now 31-28. Reds will stay at 3rd in the division as the Nats will stay at last. Reds are now 1.5 games behind.

EXTRAS! Reds play 12 innings in a 4-2 Victory!!!!

By: Jeremy Mays
The Reds play a long game that lasted 12 innings, including a rain delay. Jay Bruce hit a 2-run blast in the 2nd inning that also scored Laynce Nix. In the 9th inning which was interrupted by rain, Francisco Cordero blows his 1st save when Elijah Dukes scores off a single by Josh Bard. Alberto Gonzalez hit a single that scored Josh Willingham. In the 12th inning, the Reds win off of a Jonny Gomes double that scored Jay Bruce and then Jerry Hairston Jr. hit an RBI that scored Gomes. Jr. would be tagged out at second though, but the run still counted. W- Nick Masset L- Ron Villone S- David Weathers

Jay is Jammin' in game 2.

By: Cooper Ledford SWO SPORTS CEO

Jay Bruce has not had such a hot bat in the last few games. But the first pitch he saw he swung at and hit it to the right side for a 2 run homerun to score Nix. Out of the 7 hits Cincinnati had in the game Jay Bruce was responsable for two of them. Jay Bruce hit a HR and a two-bagger. Jay got his 15th HR of the season and leads the team in homeruns. Without Jay the Reds could not pull off the win.

Game 1.

By: Jeremy Mays SWO SPORTS CEO
Last night the Reds beat the Nationals in a close victory with a score of 3-2. Ross Detwiler lasted 6 innings giving up 3 earned runs. In the 2nd inning, Ryan Hannigan hit a line drive single to right field that scored Jay Bruce. In the 5th inning, Brandon Phillips hit a double to right field that scored both Alex Gonzalez and Johnny Cueto. Cueto pitched 7 innings and gave up 1 earned run on a solo home run by Elijah Dukes. In the 8th inning, Christian Guzman homered off of Arthur Rhodes to make the score 3-2. That was just the second earned run given up by Rhodes on the year. Game 2 is tonight 7:05 on FSN-Ohio. Aaron Harang will be on the mound tonight for the Reds and Shairon Martis is on the hill for the Nationals.

Reds want to end losing streak in DC.

The Cincinnati Reds want to end the 6 game losing streak in DC. Can they do it? I think they can, Washington is way under .500 with a 15-40 record and 18.0 games behind, and the Reds are 3 games over .500 with a 29-27 record and only 3.5 games behind. The Reds should have an easy win, however Zimmermann and Dunn are both great baseball players so Cueto will need to strike both of them out. The only way Washington wins is if Dunn and Zimmermann does their job, and Zimmermann does not allow Phillips and Hernandaz to get big hits. Good Luck to the Reds.

Reds-Nationals series preview

By: Jeremy May  SWO Sports Co. CEO

The Reds will face the likes of Adam Dunn and Austin Kearns in the opposite dugout as they are now together again. Kearns and Dunn were best friends in their tenure as Reds players along with former Red Ken Griffey Jr. All 3 played in the outfield for the Reds. Kearns and Dunn pose to be the heart of the line up for the Washington Nationals. It's always bitter sweet seeing former players of the Reds as opponents that you cheered and cheered for. The Nationals were known to have many former Reds on their roster and in their minor league system, because they were ran by former Reds GM Jim Bowden. We all remember the famous Reds-Nationals trade made by former Reds GM Wayne Krivsky back on July 13, 2006 during the All-star break that sent Felipe Lopez, Austin Kearns, and Ryan Wagner to the Washington Nationals for Royce Clayton, Bill Bray, Brendan Harris, Gary Majewski, and Daryl Thompson. Only Bray and Thompson remain in the Reds organization today, none on the Reds active roster. Former players in the Reds organization to have played for the Washington Nationals organization are as followed; Austin Kearns, Adam Dunn, Felipe Lopez, Javier Valentin, Wily Mo Pena, Jose Guillen, Kenny Kelly, Mike Stanton, Aaron Boone, Bret Boone, Brandon Claussen, Brandon Larson, Ryan Wagner, Dmitri Young, Jeffrey Hammonds, Brandon Watson, C.J. Nitkowski, Joey Eischen, Hector Carrasco, Damian Jackson, Ron Villone, Ramon Ortiz, Felix Rodriguez, Chris Booker, D'Angelo Jimenez, Josh Wilson, and Rob Mackowiak. When watching the Nationals before, I wasn't sure if I was watching the Reds or some other team because there were so many former Reds on the Nationals roster. Game 1 will be a showdown between Johnny Cueto and Jordan Zimmerman making his first career start vs the Reds. Be sure to catch the game tonight at

7:05 PM on FSN-Ohio.

Should Owings be a position player?

Reds pitcher Micah Owings is probably the worst starter on the team.  Since he can hit so well, should he be a position player?  I think that he should, when we need him we will put him anywhere, he could be  at first base while Votto is on the DL and Hernandez catches.  So if that were to happen who would take his spot in the pitching rotation?  I say Matt Maloney (that is once Edinson Volquez gets better)  He showed us how good of a pitcher he is when he faced the cubs.  Whatever hapeens good luck to Micah and the Reds.

Reds can't wait to get to DC!

The Cincinnati Reds are happy and anxious to get to the District of Columbia so they can play the Nats (who have the worst record in all of the MLB) and hopefully sweep them.  But the Reds cannot count their chickens before they hatch.  A team is not always going to have a for sure win, the Nats beat the Mets so they have the ability to beat the Reds.  The Reds will need to play good in DC and move up in the NL Central.

What's wrong with Jay?

By: Coop Ledford
Recently Jay Bruce has not been hitting well. So what's wrong with him? Here is the facts: First of all, you need to know that Bruce is young and still learning how to become better. Second, he could be trying too hard to hit the ball. He might be trying to impress people and look better than he really is (but i don't think that's the reason) Third, and most importly, teams know what he can and can't hit. SInce he is a great hitter when it's a pitch that he can hit, pitchers want to strike him out so they won't give up a big hit. So that's why Bruce is not hitting well.

Who is best hitter without Joey Votto?

By: Pedro Rodriguez.
Since Joey Votto is on the DL for "personal reasons" who is the best hitter on the Reds? Here are some great hitters: Phillips, Hernandaz, Owings, Laynce Nix. But out of these 4 who is the best? I think a tie between Phillips and Hernandaz. My reasoning is because Phillips has gotten back on track and can just, hit! Hernadaz can pull though, many time he has easily pulled the ball to rightfield for a homerun, that keeps the OF's not know where he will hit it.

Maloney ain't bologna

By: CC Leofter

Matt Maloney mad his MLB debute on JUne 5th 2009. Maloney pitched great, with only 1 walk, 1 batter hit by pitch, 2 HR, and 6 hits, that's good for a rookie. Maloney pitched 6.0 innings with 4 strikeouts, unfortunaltly Maloney could not get the win, in the bottom of the 6th a run scored to tie it at 3, even though he was not pitching, he could not win. But the Reds won, so that's the good part. I am looking forward to see him pitch again.

Reds vs. Cubbies

By Coop Ledfordaz
The Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs played 11 innings yesterday (5/6/09) Cinvinnati was trying to even the series at 1 game. The Reds had an early 3-0 start, but later on gave it up with 2 runs and a SAC fly to score a run. So it was tied at 3 runs. Jay Bruce got walked and soon got to 3rd base. To pinch hit was Adam Rosales, he said that he "was trying to drive one into the outfield" but it was a bouncer to 3rd, Bruce was going so the 3rd baseman had to throw OVER Jay, Bruce easily got home and the Reds took game 2 of the series. The winner was Nick Masset who pitched in the 10th and 11th inning.

Xavier: Better or worse with out Sean Miller?

By: Coop Ledfordaz

As you probably know, the Xavier Musketeers (now former) head coach Sean Miller went to coach the Arizona Wildcats. So are the Muskies better with out him? My answer to that is: They will be about the same. My reasoning for this is because the new head coach, Chris Mack, has a lot of experience with the Muskies, he was assistant coach. So Mack knows what the team can and can't do, what they need to work on, and how they win games. So I DO think the Muskies can be better, but I think not much will change.

Reds: Still a chance to win the NL Central?

By: Pedro Rodriguez.

The Cincinnati Reds overall have played well against other NL Central teams (i.e. Cubs, Astros, Brewers, Cardinals, and Pirates) But being in 3rd place most of the time can they still be NL Central Champs? I say that there is still hope fellow Redleg fans. The Cardinals and Brewers will collapse sooner or later and go down in the NL Central rankings, while the Reds have a chance to win games and go up in the rankings. With the Cubs being a few games behind (at the moment) they can still catch up too. The Pirates and Astros are way back, they need a merical to win it, so I count them out. So Reds, Brewers, or Cardinals will most likely win the Nl Central. Pray for our Cincinnati Reds!

Buckeyes: Another BCS in '09 season?

By: Coop Ledfordaz

The Ohio State Buckeyes football team has made it to many BCS bowls in the past few years, the question is, can OSU make it again in the '09 season without Todd, Beanie, Laurinitus, Malcome Jekins, Brian H, and Brian R.? I say they can because the spring game in Columbus showed Buckeye fans that we still have great defence, Dan "Boom" Herron is a very talented tailback (Not as good as Beanie of course) and Pryor is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. So if the Buckeyes do as good or better than last year, yes the Buckeyes WILL make it to a BCS bowl game.

Bengals: Any chance at the playoffs in 2009?

By Coop Ledfordaz.

The Cincinnati Bengals have not been a good team in the past. So are you wondering if there is any chance that they will make the playoffs in 2009? I am, here is my outlook on the Bengals: The Bengals have lost their star WR, T.J, Chad Ocho Cinco is not happy in Cincinnati, so he won't play as good and will probably demand to be traded. Our Defence has not got any better, and the CEO's don't care about the team, just the money. So I say NO The Bengals will not make the playoffs in 2009.
