NEW JERSEY- The Cincinnati Bearcats were underdogs heading into the 2009 season opener vs the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The Cats sure went against those odds and won 47-15. Here is how some scoring took place. In the opening drive for UC Tony Pike was 6 for 6 and then on 2nd and goal Pike handed it off to Pead for the TD and make it 7-0 UC on top. Rutgers would give the fans in Piscataway something too cheer about after a TD run by Joe Martinek and we were tied at 7. Then into the second quarter UC's Jake Rodgers kicked 30 yard FG and gave the Bearcats a 3 point lead. The Bearcats were far from done in the 2nd quarter. The Bearcats would get a 10 point lead after back-up QB, Travis Kelce ran into the endzone for a TD and make it 17-7 UC. In the same quarter Tony Pike got his 1st TD pass of 2009 to Marshwan Gilyard and it was now 24-7. Then UC's Isaiah Pead got a 41 yard pass from Pike to make it a graet 31-7 lead for Cincinnati. Into the 3rd quarter we go, Travis Kelce got the scoring started with a 2 yard TD run and it was now 38-7. Then a 1 yard pass from Tony Pike to Jacob Ramsey in the endzone gave UC a nice 45-7 lead. Into the 4th now, Rutgers scored their first points since the 1st quarter and it was off of a 7 yard pass from Savage to Shamar Graves. The scarlet Knights decided to go for 2, not that it would make a difference, however it was a succses and it was now 45-15. The Bearcats would then get 2 point thinks to a penelty on Rutgers in the endzone and it was a saftey and was now 47-15 and that would be the final. Tony Pike was amazing with 362 passing yards. Bearcats are now ranked 23rd and are 1-0.
