The Cincinnati Reds and free-agent shortstop Orlando Cabrera have agreed to a one-year deal worth $3 million. The deal includes a $3 million option with a $1 million buyout for 2011, follows a one-year, $4 million contract that Cabrera played with in 2009. Cabrera has 12 years of experience and is the thr brother of former Red Jolbert Cabrera. He has a .275 career average through out his career playing for the Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, LAA Angels, Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics, and the Minnesota Twins. Cabrera was sent from Montreal to Boston in 2004 at the MLB trade deadline in a deal that sent Nomar Garciaparra to the Chicago Cubs and Cabrera helped the Red Sox win the World Series breaking their 86 year curse without a title. Paul Janish who many thought was going to be the Opening Day starter at SS based on his excellent defensive play last year will continue to come off the bench for the Reds and serve as Cabrera's back up.
