Wood Hot, But Bats Go Cold

By:  Cooper Ledford

The rookie, Travis Wood, who was coming off a near perfect game, was on the hill for the Reds, and on the hill for Colorado was the Hamilton native, Aaron Cook.  Cook had not won a game away from Coors field this season, until today.  Cook may not have really pitched well, the Reds just looked terrible, as they were very impatient.  It seemed the Reds were swinging at the fences, and not just trying to reach base like they should.  The Reds had plenty of hits, 8 of them, and plenty of opportunities to blow the game open, but could not convert the base runners into runs.

Travis Wood only made one bad pitch, and that was to Chris Ianetta in the 6th inning, as it was a solo home run for the Rockies' catcher, and that would be the only run of the game.  What will Travis Wood have to do to pick up a win?

Wood did good, but on this day, not good enough.  He went 6 innings, gave up only 3 hits, 1 ER, 4 BB, and had 6 strikeouts.

The good news is that the Reds did take 2/3 games from the Colorado Rockies, and St. Louis is losing 4-2 in the 8th to the Dodgers.  The Reds should remain a half game ahead of the Cardinals in 1st place in the NL Central.

The Reds will start a 4 game series with the Washington Nationals.  All 4 games are 7:10 PM ET games, and will all be televised on FS Ohio.  Tomorrow it will be Johnny Cueto (8-2, 3.42 ERA) on the hill for the Redlegs, and pitching for the Nats will be JD Martin (1-4, 3.35 ERA).
