Kentucky Defeats Cornell 62-45, Advance To Elite Eight
UK defeated Cornell 62-45 is a hard fought battle in the Carrier Dome at Syracuse, New York. Cornell took off to an early 10-2 run but UK ended the 1st Half on a 30-6 run. UK let Cornell get within 6 in the 2nd Half but were able to pull it out for a 17-point win. UK struggled with the pace of the game and careless turnovers. Lack of intensity got them and a hostile environment full of Big Red fans. Former Wildcat Mark Coury played 13 minutes and picked up two rebounds. The media made the Cornell the favorite and picked the Big Red to upset the Big Blue but Wall and the Cats would have no part of that. Kentucky will move on to the Elite 8 and will face the West Virginia Mountaineers for the 2nd Consecutive season. UK beat WVU in the The Las Vegas Invitational last season in the championship game. Game time is set for 7 PM on CBS. The last time the Cats were in the Elite Eight was back in 2005 with Coach Tubby Smith, Senior Chuck Hayes, and Junior Kelenna Azubuike. UK lost to Michigan State in double over time in a game most famous for the 3-point shot to send the game to overtime made by Patrick Sparks. No real outbreak performance by anyone tonight but DeMarcus Cousins had 16 points and 7 rebounds.
