The Sixth Seeded Xavier Musketeers were playing the Second Seeded Kansas State Wildcats in the West Region, and the winner would advance to the Elite Eight. Kansas State ended up beating Xavier and ending their season in a heartbreaking way. KSU won in 2 Overtimes, 101-96. Congratulations to KSU, as they move on to the Elite Eight, and Congratulations to the Xavier Musketeers on a great season. Also congratulations to XU senior, Jason Love as he played his final game as a Muskie, and had an amazing career.
KSU played tough in the 1st period, but so did Xavier. At the half, Xavier had the lead 32-31, a typical score at the half in a Sweet 16 game. In the second half, both teams played great, and with one second left, Jacob Pullen had a chance to win it for the Wildcats, but he missed the three point jumper to send the game into overtime, 72-72 was the score.
In the first overtime, both teams played well, but KSU once again had to win the game with one second left, but Denis Clemente missed the two point jumper to send the game into the second overtime.
In the second overtime, with 27 seconds left, Xavier was down by one, 96-97. Xavier then called a timeout and KSU never looked back. If Jordan Crawford, Dante Jackson, and Brad Redford did not miss their threes in the final 17 seconds, the Muskies would be heading to the Elite Eight to play Butler. However, it will be KSU and Butler in the West Region Elite Eight game. It is not possable to call the Muskies losers after playing a great game against a number two seeded team.
Jordan Crawford had 32 points, and Terrell Holloway had 26. In Jason Love's final game as a Muskie, he scores 11 points, had one assist, four rebounds, and played 42 minutes.
Once again, Congratulations to a great first season for Chris Mack, and a great last season for Jason Love!
