Duo Of Pick 6's Lead OSU To Win

By:  Cooper Ledford

The #9Ohio State Buckeyes (8-1, 4-1) were playing host to their foes, the Penn State Nittany Lions (6-3, 3-3). Ohio State was trying to stay in the hunt for the Big Ten Title and a BCS Bowl game, while PSU was looking for some revenge on the Buckeyes, as they fell to Ohio State last year, which ruined the Lions Big Ten Title hopes.  Ohio State was the team who succeeded, as they won 38-14.  But this came as a shock to a lot of people, as OSU was trailing 14-3 at the half, but the Scarlet and Gray's offense stepped up, and so did their defense.  Here is how it all happened.

Ohio State scored first, and on their first drive, with a 26 yard field goal by Barclay, 3-0 the score.  But that lead would not last long.

Penn State would answer back with McGloin connecting with Brown for a 23 yard touchdown pass.  Believe it or not, but that was the first touchdown pass that PSU has thrown under Joe Pa in Columbus.  7-3 the score at the end of a quarter.

The Nittany Lions would be back at it when Matthew McGloin threw another touchdown pass, this one to Derek Moye, a 6 yard score, and 14-3 was the score at the half.  So, the Lions were dominating the Buckeyes in the 1st half.

Jim Tressel rallied the troops at the half, and appeared to pump them up, because there is no doubt that they started playing much better.  with 6:33 to go in the 3rd quarter, Dan "Boom" Herron ran for a 5 yard touchdown run, Boom goes the Herron, and the score was 14-10, a one possession game.  But, Ohio State had to play defense and not let the Lions score.  They didn't.  Instead, Devon Torrence picked off McGloin's pass, and ran it back for 34 yard pick 6.  Just like that, all the momentum went to Ohio State, as they took the lead 17-14.  But, wait there's more.

In the 4th quarter, Terrelle Pryor went to the endzone for Posey, it was tipped and looked like it would fall incomplete, but no, Dan Sanzenbacher saved the day as he was there to catch it off of the deflection for the touchdown.  It was a 58 yard score, and The Men Of The Scarlet And Gray had a 24-24 lead.  But, once again, they still needed to play some defense.  That they did.  There was another pick 6, this time it was Travis Howard with the INT, and it was for 30 yards, 31-14 the score.  The Bucks would add another score with about 4 minutes to go in the game, as it was Terrelle Pryor connecting with Jake Stoneburner for a 3 yard score, that was on 3rd and goal.  38-14 the score, and that would be the final.

Terrelle Pryor may not be happy that he did not reach over 200 passing yards, as he only had 139 yards, off of 8 completions on 13 attempts, did have 2 touchdowns, and 1 pick.  Dan Herron had a great game, as he had 21 carries for an impressive 190 yards and 1 touchdown.  DeVier Posey lead the way in receiving, as he had 3 receptions for 63 yards.  Sanzenbacher was next up with 1 catch for a 58 yard touchdown.  As for the visitors, Matthew McGloin had a great first half, but he did not have a good 2nd half at all.  But, you have to give credit to the Silver Bullet defense for that.  McGloin finished with 159 yards on 15 completions on 30 attempts, had 2 touchdowns, and 2 picks, both of them, of course, pick 6's.

So, the Buckeyes are still alive in the Big Ten.  If the Bucks win out, they will more than likely get a BCS birth.  But, as Buckeye fans, we really wanna see Wisconsin lose a game, and see OSU win out, so that would send us to the Rose Bowl.  Michigan State would win a share of the Big Ten Championship, but since our BCS rank, more than likely, would be higher, we would play in the Rose Bowl.

Next, the 9-1, 5-1 Buckeyes will travel to Iowa City to take on a very tough Iowa Hawkeyes team.  Iowa got upset by Northwestern today, so they will be looking to get back on track, but Ohio State is fighting for a share of the Big Ten Title, so they too will play a touch game.  That game is on Saturday at 3:30 PM ET and will be televised on ABC.
