OSU Rallies To Beat Iowa

By:  Cooper Ledford

The Ohio State Buckeyes (9-1, 5-1) were in Iowa City, Iowa taking on the Iowa Hawkeyes (7-3, 4-2).  Ohio State was playing to stay alive in the Big Ten Championship hunt, and get their ticket to a BCS Bowl Game, while Iowa was trying to improve their disappointing record.  If Ohio State lost, they would not go to a BCS Bowl game, nor win a share of the Big Ten Title, but luckily for Buckeye fans, like me, they won.  They rallied to get the win 20-17.  Here is how.

With 1:05 to go in the 1st Quarter, Ricky Stanzi connected with Marvin McNutt for the touchdown, 7-0 the score.

Ohio State would answer back with 11:34 to go in the 2nd with an 18 yard field goal by Barclay, 7-3.  When Iowa later on got the ball back, they were driving, but their kicker, Micheal Meyer missed a 40 yard field goal.  That was HUGE in this game.  7-3 would be the score at the half.

The Buckeyes scored first in the 2nd half.  Terrelle Pryor connected with Reid Fragel for a 5 yard touchdown pass, and the Men Of The Scarlet And Gray had a 10-7 lead.

Micheal Meyer answered back with a field gaol from 31 yards out to tie the game up at 10.

To the 4th quarter, Marcus Coker started things off with a 1 yard touchdown run with just under 12 minutes to go, Iowa lead 17-10.

With 7:38 to go in the 4th, Jim Tressel called on Devin Barclay to try for a 48 yard field goal attempt, it was good.  17-13 the score, Hawks still on top.  Later on, with only 1:47 to go, Ohio State had the ball from the Iowa 1 yard line, it was 2nd and goal, Pryor hands it to Herron, for a 1 yard touchdown run, Bucks lead 19-17....But wait!!! "The previous play in under further review" Replays show that Boom did break the goal line, therefore, it is a touchdown, 20-17 the score after the PAT.

But, Iowa would have to get the ball back.  OSU's defense played well, and did not let them do anything.  Ohio State wins it, they are 10-1 and are still alive in the Big Ten.

Coach Jim Tressel said "We felt like it was going to be a four-quarter heavyweight bout. Iowa's never going to stop fighting," Tressel said. "Our guys never stop."

This is the second year in a row that Ohio State has beat Iowa by just a field goal.

The Bucks have trailed or been tied early on in 6 of their games (Miami (FL), Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Penn State, and Iowa) and have came back to win 5 of those games.

"I hate losing with a passion" said Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor.  Luckily for him, he does not have to have hate in his heart on this day.  Speaking of Terrelle Pryor, he had 18 completions on 33 attempts, 195 yards passing, 1 touchdown, but 2 picks.  Even though he had 2 picks and his stats were not amazing, he was able to create plays and help the #9 Ohio State Buckeyes beat the #20 Iowa Hawkeyes.  Ricky Stanzie also had 195 yards, 1 touchdown, but no picks.  Both QB's have 23 total touchdown passes on the season.

Next, Ohio State will return home to take on "The Team Up North" in THE GAME.  THE GAME will be at 12:00 Noon, and will be televised on ABC.  Ohio State will be playing to get win number 11 and get a free ticket to a BCS Bowl, while the other team will be playing to get a win over a ranked team.  Both teams will be playing to beat each other, as it is the Biggest Rivalry in All of Sports.
