The Reds have optioned Edinson Volquez to AAA Louisville. Volquez has been struggling mightily through out the season, especially in the 1st innings of games.
After Edinson got the news, he called out the team.
"I think everybody has to step up and start getting some runs," Volquez said. "The last five games, we've scored how many runs? Thirteen [actually 12] in five games? It's not the way we were playing last year. We're better than that."
In response to that, I say "Edinson, you need to give up less runs. That's not the way you were a few years ago. You're better that that."
The Reds also sent down reliever Jordan Smith for the 2nd time this year.
The Reds recalled Todd Frazier from AAA along with Matt Maloney.
Frazier will get a taste of the big leagues for the first time ever, but don't be surprised if he does very well. In Louisville he hit .293, had 11 homers, and 33 RBI's. He was batting .354 and had 6 homers in the month of May, so he was red-hot, hopefully he can carry it over into the bigs.
Maloney started the year with Cincinnati, and did not look all that good, but that was because he did not get enough chances to prove himself. He was then sent back down to AAA, where he went 2-1 and had an ERA of 4.45.
