Kentucky Slaughters UNC-Asheville

Kentucky annihilates UNC-Asheville today 94-57. It was a total team effort today. Everyone played well and saw plenty of game action as UK tuned up one more time before they take on the reigning champion North Carolina Tar Heels. Patterson, Wall, and Cousins all had highlight dunks that shook the Freedom Hall crowd that was painted blue today! Darnell Dodson and Darius Miller had a great night shooting the 3-ball for the Cats. DeMarcus Cousins lead the team with 24 points and 10 rebounds earning yet another double-double on the year. Dodson got some crucial experience in today's game scoring 15 points(3 3-pointers). DeAndre Liggins was the only one who didn't see any playing time today for the seventh straight game.

Kentucky Can't Snap Streak To UT, Lose 30-24 in OT

The Tennessee Volunteers keep the streak alive squeaking out a TD in overtime to win 25 straight over Kentucky. Montario Hardesty had a huge night scoring the game winning 20-yard TD. He ran for a career-high 179 yards handing Lane Kiffin a victory over UK in his first year at Tennessee. Late in the 3rd Qtr, Tennessee would take the lead with a FG in the 3rd Qtr. In the 4th Qtr, Ashton Cobb forced a fumble and it was scooped up by Taylor Wyndham setting up Kentucky for a chance to tie or win the game. All they would salvage was a FG tying the game up and sending it into overtime. In OT, Lones Seiber missed a FG that would have given UK a 3 point lead. After the missed FG, Montario Hardesty scored the game winning TD. UK finishes tied for 4th in the SEC East to finish the season.

The Cincinnati Bearcats were trying to remain undefeated as they were hosting the Illinois Fighting Illini. The Bearcats won this game in a very high scoring game, 49-36. Here is how.

To start things off, Juice Williams connected 21 yards with Sykes for a touchdown, after the PAT it was 7-0 Illinois. The Bearcats would answer back on the nect play, the kickoff, Mardy Gilyard returned it 90 yards and we were tied at 7. What the SWO teams should be thankful of

By: Cooper Ledford

Cincinnati Bearcats-The Bearcats football team is undefeated and they are ranked #5 in the BCS, the highest ranking in school history. The UC basketball team was the runner up in Maui Invitational and lost in overtime, a close game against a tough Gonzaga team.

Xavier Musketeers-The Muskies are undefeated in basketball and will start the Old Spice Classic today playing Marquette.

Ohio State Buckeyes-In football the Buckeyes are probably the most thankful team, they lost 2 games this year but they kept fighting and ended up winning the Big Ten. Ohio State beat Michigan once again and beat other tough teams like Penn State and Iowa. The OSU basketball team has only one loss, and that was in a close game against UNC (North Carolina).

Kentucky Wildcats-The football team is thankful that they will go to a Bowl game this year. They also beat tough teams like Vandy and Georgia. As for basketball-UK is #5 and is expected to go into the final 4 or better-they also won the Cancun Challenge after beating Stanford last night.

Cincinnati Christian University Eagles-the basketball team for CCU beat Union College, they should be thankful that they have a winning record (4-3) and that they beat a tough Union College team.

Cincinnati Bengals-The Bengals may be the most thankful team in the NFL right now. They are in 1st place in the AFC North with a 7-3 record, that is 3 more wins they they had all of last year. They are lucky that they swept the Steelers and the Ravens, also they are looking to sweep the Browns and be undefeated in the AFC North.

Cincinnati Reds-The Reds should be thankful that they have some great players such as Drew Stubbs, Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, Johnny Cueto, and Jay Bruce (there is more, but for time sake I am not going to mention them all-I have to eat some turkey soon). Also that they were the hottest team in the MLB in the last 20 games, also that they did not finish in last place in the NL Central-they finished 3rd.

UC becomes runner-up in Maui Invitational

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) - Robert Sacre scored 14 points and Gonzaga won the Maui Invitational for the first time in three tries, beating Cincinnati 61-59 in overtime Wednesday night at the Lahaina Civic Center.
Steven Gray and Elias Harris added 13 points apiece for Gonzaga (5-1).
The Bulldogs, who also got 12 points from Demetri Goodson, overcame a 10-point second-half deficit and sent the game to overtime after Sacre hit a floater in the lane with 16 seconds to play in regulation. Sacre then blocked Cincinnati's alley-oop attempt at the buzzer.
The Bearcats (4-1) looked weary in overtime, missing five of seven free throws in the first 1:45 while falling behind by two.
Yancy Gates, who scored 11 points, had a putback dunk with 12.6 seconds remaining to bring the Bearcats within one, but Cashmere Wright missed a floater as time expired.
Lance Stephenson led Cincinnati with 15 points.
It was Gonzaga's third appearance in the Maui Invitational. The Bulldogs reached the championship game once before, losing to Connecticut 65-63 in 2005

UK wins Cancun Challenge.

The Kentucky Wildcats were trying to won the Cancun Challenge in Cancun, Mexico. In order to do so they had to beat the Stanford Cardinals. UK was able to do so and they win in overtime, 73-65.

In overtime, UK got 10 points, as opposed to 2 from the Cardinals. John Wall had 26 points including a great 3 pointer to give UK the lead in overtime that would end up winning the game. Freshman, Eric Bledsoe made a long 3 pointer with 33 seconds left that would give UK the lead, but it would later on get tied and go into overtime. Another Wildcat that did great was DeMarcus Cousins, who had 13 points. The game was a team effort and a close one, but once again there is room for improvement for all parts of the team.

UK's next game will be on the 30th versus North Carolina-Asheville. UK is now ranked #5.

Cincinnati Christian University beats Union College

The Union College Bulldogs were hosting the Cincinnati Christian Eagles Tuesday. The Eagles soared past Union College, 93-85.

"The Bulldogs (3-4 overall) hit 39-of-68 shots (57.4 percent) from the floor while the Eagles shot 40.7 percent (33-of-81 shots). However, Cincinnati Christian (4-3 overall) netted 29 points off of Union's 26 turnovers.
Conversely, Union scored only 17 points off of 19 Cincinnati Christian miscues.
Union maintained the lead for much of the first half, building a 20-13 cushion after a Kearney Demus (Lexington, Ky.) bucket at the 9:45 mark. However, the Bulldogs could not shake the Eagles as the visitors rallied to tie the score at 26-26 on a Darriel Hunter 3-pointer with 3:15 remaining." (Union College News)

Later on CCU went on a 8-0 run and kept their lead. CCU is now 4-3 after the 93-85 win, their next game will be at IU Southeast on Dec. 5 (Saturday)

CCU is the newest team that SWO Sports will be covering.

Bearcats beat Maryland

By: Pedro Rodriguez

The Cincinnati Bearcats were trying to stay undefeated as they were in Maui, Hawai'i playing Maryland. UC won 69-57 and they are now 4-0.

The player of the game was Sophomore, Yancy Gates whom scored 17 points, 13 of which came in the 2nd half. Cincinnati played a great game and they are looking tough. I will not be surprised if Cincinnati wins the Big East, even with Louisville and the Orange in the same confrence as UC.

The Bearcats next game is still in Maui, they will be playing Gonzaga on the 25th, which is a Thursday. The game will be at noon and will be televised on ESPN and on the radio the game will be on 700 WLW.

Other Buckeyes were in double digits, Jon Diebler had 17 points, Dallas Lauderdale had 13, Simmons had 11. Also, Adnan Hodzic had 18 points and Michael Teller 11 points. Ohio State is now 4-1. Brian Kelly to Notre Dame?

By: Cooper Ledford SWO SPORTS FOUNDER AND CEO

If you live in the Cincinnati area, or if you're a Bearcat or Fighting Irish fan, you have probably heard that UC head coach, Brian Kelly could become the next coach for Notre Dame. Notre Dame's current head coach, Charlie Weis, has not done well with the Irish in his 3 seasons being there. The future of Weis will be made after the Stanford game, Saturday. If Charlie Weis does not get fired, Brian Kelly will stay at UC of course. Many people in the Cincinnati area say that he will stay, (Brian Kelly) because "if he does there will be monuments and buildings named after you, maybe even the stadium" A UC student said about Brian Kelly.

Kelly has done great things with the Bearcats in his few years as coach. He took them to the papajohns.com bowl, and a BCS Orange Bowl. If we get anymore information on Brian Kelly, we will let you know ASAP.

Kentucky 73 Cleveland State 49

UK defeated the Cleveland State Vikings today in the Semi-Finals 73-49 this afternoon. Kentucky will move on to the Championship game of the Cancun Challenge and will face the winner of the Stanford/Virginia game. No one really stole the show today. It was a good team effort from everybody that played. Everyone who saw action scored today. The first half was a rather close game with Josh Harrellson hitting a buzzer beater three to end the 1st half. UK led by only 8 points at the end of the first half. The Cats came out of the gate exploding offensively. They increased their lead from 8 points to 24 points before it was all said and done. John Wall led the team in scoring with 15 points. Be sure to catch the Cats tomorrow tomorrow night at 9:30 PM ET on CBS College Sports as they try to win their 2nd consecutive preseason tournament championship.

Kentucky Stuns Georgia 34-27

The Kentucky Wildcats go into Sanford Stadium and defeat the Georgia Bulldogs for the first time on the since 1977. The same year Rich Brooks lead his Oregon Ducks football team into Athens to hand the "Mighty Bulldogs" a loss. The game winning play was set up by a UGA's QB Joe Cox throwing an interception to UK's DT Shane McCord with 9:55 to go in the 4th Qtr. Randall Cobb would score the go-ahead TD after the interception. It looked as if UGA was going to tie the game up near the end zone with 2:21 left but a costly fumble for Georgia's running back Washaun Easley prevented that from happening. The play that sealed the deal was when Cox through an interception to UK LB Sam Maxwell with 1:52 left in the ball game. Morgan Newton threw for 137 yards and 3 TDs. Completed 9/17 passes. Derrick Locke carried the ball 16 times for 80 yards. Cobb had 40 rushing yards on 9 carries. Locke also had 2 receptions for 80 yards and scored 2 TDs. Nick Melillo had two receptions for 22 yards. Kentucky extends their record to 7-4 on the year and will end the season this Saturday at home vs the Tennessee Volunteers.

Buckeyes win more Golden Pants, 6 in a row

By: Cooper Ledford

The Ohio State Buckeyes were trying to win the Big Ten outright, while Michigan was trying to be bowl eligible. Ohio State was successful on their part, they won 21-10 and got their 6th strait win over the Maize and Blue. Here is how.

In the first quarter, Forcier fumbled the ball in his own endzone, Cameron Heyward picked it up, it was a touchdown and OSU had a 7-0 lead. Later on Michigan had a great drive going, then on 4th down inside the 10, they tried for a field goal, it was no good and OSU still had a 7-0 lead. That was only until Michigan did get a field goal, in the second quarter, Jason Olesnavage kicked a 46 yarder it was 7-3 Bucks still on top. The Silver Bullets added on when Brandon Saine got a 29 yard rushing touchdown and Ohio State had a 14-3 lead going into the half. Last year at halftime OSU had a 14-7 lead, and won 42-7, but not nearly as high scoring for OSU this year, and not much of a blow out. To start the 3rd quarter scoring, Forcier connected with Vincent Smith for an 18 yard touchdown. The score was 14-10 with 10:05 to go in the 3rd. Forcier had a total of 226 yards, but 4 picks, that's what hurt him. Later on with 4:46 to go in the 3rd Dan "BOOM" Herron caught a 12 yard touchdown pass from Terrelle Pryor for a Buckeye 21-10 lead. Their was no 4th quarter scoring and the Buckeyes win. Rich Rodriguez is now 0-2 vs. Ohio State and Jim Tressel is now 8-1 vs. Michigan. For the 2nd strait year, the Wolverines will not go to a Bowl game. Ohio State's next game in on New Years Day, in the Rose Bowl (opponent TBA). Until then, GO BUCKS!

Ohio State gets ready for THE GAME

By:  Pedro Rodriguez

The Ohio State Buckeyes (9-2, 6-1 Big Ten) will be heading to Ann Arbor to play the Michigan Wolverines (5-6, SUCKS in Big Ten).  Michigan leads the all time series 57-42-6, but Ohio State is coming off of a 5 game winning streak against their hated rivals, U of M.  The Buckeyes, whose got a garunteed trip to the Rose Bowl, are seeking more golden pants and a chance to win the Big Ten outright.  On the other hand, Michigan has not been so great recently, they were #24 at one point in the season (when they beat Notre Dame) but they have lost many games since week 2 and their record sits at 5-6 and U of M is just looking to be Bowl elligable.  If Michigan looses against Ohio State tomorrow, it will be the second strait year that the Wolverines have not gone to a bowl game, also the second time in school history.  Ohio State may have a litlle more incouragment to win though, they will be wearing their 1954 throwbacks.  To see pictures look at our older posts.  Now here is some Quickies.

  • U of M leads the all-time 57-42-6
  • Since 1951, OSU is 30-26-2 versus Michigan
  • The two teams first met in 1897
  • This game was not a rivarly game until 1918
  • Jim Tressel is 7-1 against Michigan
  • Rich Rodriguez is 0-1 against Ohio State
  • 93% of Michigan fans don't know how to spell Wolverine

The game will be televised on ABC (Cincinnati station WCPO-9) at Noon.  This will be the 106th meeting between the teams.

GO BUCKEYES!!!!

Kentucky Holds Off Sam Houston State 102-92

The Kentucky Wildcats got going tonight with a 102-92 victory over the Sam Houston State Bearkats. However, the defense of the Wildcats still has plenty of flaws in it as it seemed to be deja vu all over again Corey Allmond sparked the Bearkats offense with 37 points. He was 11-for-16 from behind the arc tonight and almost set a record for most 3-point baskets made by a team at Rupp Arena. UK's starting 5 played great games today. DeMarcus Cousins lead the Wildcats scoring 27 points. John Wall and Eric Bledsoe combined scored 40 points from UK's backcourt. Bledsoe had five three point baskets in tonight's game with 4 in the 2nd half. Jon Hood saw his first action for the Wildcats playing 8 minutes in his UK debut. Cousins got his 2nd double-double of the year with 27 points and 18 rebounds.

Cincinnati sweeps Pittsburgh!

By:  Duron Lewis

The Cincinnati Bengals were trying to remain perfect in the AFC North, and take 1st place outright in the division.  The Bengals were able to do so with an 18-12 win.  Here is how.

On Pittsburgh's opening drive, Jeff Reed kicked a 28 yard field goal, 3-0.  On the very next play, the kickoff, Bernard Scott, the rookie out of ACU took it 96 yards for a touchdown, the PAT was failed, but the Bengals were leading 6-3.  Then after 2 Reed field goals in the 2nd QRT, the Steelers had a 9-6 lead.  Then in the 3rd QRT  Shayne Graham had 2 field goal and Cincy had a 12-9 lead into the 4th.  Pittsburgh would tie it up when Jeff Reed kicked a 34 yarder, 12-12.  Cincinnati would get 2 field goals in the 4th, one from 32 yards out, and one from 43 yards out, it was 18-12, and that was the final.   Cincinnati is now 7-2 and 1st in the AFC North.
Stats:  Palmer: 18/30,  178 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT.
Scott: 13 carries, 33 yards.  Coles: 5 rec, 67 yards

Ohio State, Big Ten Champions!

By: Cooper Ledford

The Ohio State Buckeyes (9-2) were playing host to the Iowa Hawkeyes (9-2) This was the Big Ten Championship Game, whoever won would get the free ride to Pasadena to play in the Rose Bowl.  Ohio State was coming off of a win at Penn State and Iowa was coming off of a loss at home against NorthWestern.  The Buckeyes and Hawkeyes played one of the best games in Big Ten history on my opinion, for sure the best OSU game of my life.  Ohio State won it overtime 24-21.  Here is how.

To start things off, Iowa's kicker, Daniel Murray kicked a 32 yard field goal and Iowa had a 3-0 lead.  Iowa lad the lead until the Buckeyes answered back in the 2nd quarter when Devin Barclay kicked a 30 yard field goal and the game was tied at 3.  The Buckeyes would get the lead going into the half after a  Brandon Saine 22 yard field goal, it was 10-3 Silver Bullets on top.  Iowa would tie it up late in the 3rd quarter when Vandenberg connected with Marvin McNutt for a 9 yard touchdown, 10-10.  Ohio State got the lead back when Dan "BOOM" Herron ran for an 11 yard touchdown it was 17-10 Bucks on top.  Later on after an Iowa turnover Ohio State was at the Hawk's 49, Brandon Saine got his longest run of the season, 49 yards, it was a touchdown and it was now 24-10 Ohio State on top with 11:11 to go in regulation.  The Hawkeyes would get 6 when Derrell Johnson-Koulianos returned the kickoff 99 yards and it was 24-17 Buckeyes still with the lead.  Then, Iowa would tie it up once again when McNutt got his 2nd touchdown of the game, this one from 10 yards out and we were tied at 24.  Iowa would let the clock run out and the game was heading into overtime.  After a couple of sacks on Vandenberg it was 4th and about 26, the pass was picked off and the Buckeyes got the ball back on the Iowa 25.  After a few short gains, a couple of losses by Saine, Herron, and Pryor it was 4th down and here came Devin Barclay.  This meant the game, the Big Ten, the Rose Bowl.  It would be a 39 yard field goal.  The kick was up.  It was GOOD!  Ohio State wins the Big Ten in overtime!  Ohio State gets thier 14th Big Ten title and are going to the Rose Bowl. Also, OSU has won 5 strait Big Ten titles, their record is now 9-2.  Next OSU will travel to Ann Arbor to play Michigan in THE GAME.  For video highlights go to www.youtube.com/Redsfancoop

Final Kentucky 24 Vanderbilt 13

Bearcats 10-0 for first time in school history.

By: Cooper Ledford

The Cincinnati Bearcats now have their best start to a season in school history.  UC is now 10-0 after beating West Virgina last night.  Here is how.

After a good start for Zach Collaros, the Bearcats were in the red zone and in came Tony Pike to play under center.  Pike connected with Armon Binns for a 10 yard touchdown and UC had a 7-0 lead.  The Mountaineers would answer back after a fumble recovery and a Jarrett Brown 8 yard touchdown run and the game was tied at 7.  WVU would take the lead in the 2nd quarter when Ryan Clarke had a nice 37 yard touchdown run and it was 14-7 WVU.  Cincinnati would tie it up when Pead ran it in 2 yards for a touchdown, but fumbled it at the goal line, the play would be reviewd, it was reversed, 6 for UC.  Later on in the 3rd, UC would bring in Tony Pike once again in the redzone.  Pike threw a 6-pointer to D.J. Woods and Cincy was on top 21-14 into the 4th.  There was no scoring early in the 4th until Cincy got a field goal with 2:08 to go and they were on top 24-14.  West Virginia was trying to come back and win, they needed 10 points, so they got the 7 when Brown connected to Bradley Starks and it was a touchdown, it was now a 3 point game, 24-21.  The Mountaineers had to try for the onside kick, but UC recovered to seal their win.  UC will take on Illinois next week.

The Xavier Musketeers were playing host to the Youngstown State Penguins to open their season. The Muskies, who were undefeated in exhibiton games beat YSU with the score of 83-57.

"XU was consistent from the field shooting 51 percent and going 30-37 from the charity stripe. Senior Jason Love earned eight of his 12 points from the free throw line and went 2-of-2 from the field. Love also had three monster blocks and eight rebounds. Freshman Mark Lyons made several athletic moves scoring 12 points, including going 5-of-5 from the free throw line in his long awaited debut for the Blue and White." -www.goxavier.com

Kentucky 75 Morehead State 59

Kentucky Wildcats defeated the Morehead State Eagles to kick off the John Calipari era of Kentucky Basketball. Eric Bledsoe shined with 24 points starting in place of John Wall who was serving the last game of his suspension. Patrick Patterson had a double-double scoring 20 points and had 15 rebounds. He hit his first career three point shot vs NCAA competition. Dodson added 15 points himself. The first half was rather sloppy and Morehead closed UK's largest lead down to just 5 points before UK increased their half-time lead to 8.

Kentucky turned it up in the 2nd half when pulling away early from the Eagles. The highlight of the game came in the 2nd half when Eric Bledsoe made a layup without facing the basketball and tumbling to the floor. DeMarcus Cousins struggled in his Wildcats debut fouling out (3 1st half fouls).

Ohio State, back to 1954

By: Cooper Ledford

The Ohio State Buckeyes director of athletics, Gene Smith announced that the Buckeyes will wear their throwback jerseys from 1954, the year they went undefeated and beat USC in the Rose Bowl. Here's what Smith had to say.

"During spring, 2009, Ohio State was invited by Nike to participate in its Rivalry uniform program with several other universities from around the nation. They offered us a chance to try a new uniform product featuring cutting-edge fabrics and technology; participation in the program also offered us a one-time opportunity to salute one of those great championship teams that have built the Ohio State football tradition.

Our coaches and players were excited to see the different elements Nike presented in the prototype designs and samples. The uniform elements are still in production, and we are extremely eager to see the finished product when it arrives.

For this special program, we chose to recognize the achievements of our undefeated 1954 national championship team, winning the Big Ten title outright before capturing a Rose Bowl victory. These great Buckeyes celebrated their 55th anniversary with us at the Minnesota game, and this is another way for us to pay homage to their stellar achievements.

Our fans will be able to get the first look at these unique uniforms on Sunday, Nov. 15, when we will share photos of the finished product on our website OhioStateBuckeyes.com. Fans can also take a look at the actual uniform up close that week in our official Team Shop in the Schottenstein Center. And our team will wear these custom designs when the Buckeyes take the field Nov. 21 up north in Ann Arbor.

Again, this is a one-time opportunity to honor a great championship team. We have no plans to make any changes to the traditional Buckeye uniform for the foreseeable future."

A prediction of what Terrele Pryor will look like with the new uniforms.

Chris Henry, out for season

By: Javier Lopez SWO SPORTS SPECIALIST

After being knocked out by a Ravens defender, Chris Henry landed weird on his left arm. The Bengals medical staff has released the information that Henry has broken his arm and will be out for the remainder of the season (maybe he will be back in time to play in the Super Bowl-I wish).

Bengals, still undefeated in AFC North

By: Cooper Ledford

The Cincinnati Bengals sweep the Ravens in the 2 games they played each other this year, the first game Cincinnati won 17-14, this time 17-7. Here is how.

Carson Palmer connected to Andre Caldwell for a 6 yard TD and Cincy was on top 7-0. Later on in the 1st QRT, Cedric Benson added 6 more points with a 1 yard TD run, then the PAT made it 14-0 Bengals on top at the end of 1. Cincinnati would get a 23 yard field goal from Shayne Graham to make it 17-0 at the half. In the 2nd half, the Ravens defense stepped up and shutout the Bengals when it came to points, however Baltimore did get some points. Unfortunately, they only got 7, that was from a Ray Rice 2 yard run and it was 17-7 and that is how the game ended.

Palmer did great, he went 20/33, 224 yards along with 1 TD and no interceptions. Benson had another brilliant game, 117 yards off of 34 carries and 1 TD. Coles lead in receiving, he had 6 receptions, with 72 yards, Ochocinco had 5 with 66 yards. Also, Chris Henry (1 reception, 20 yards) got hurt, it is unknown how long he will be out, if we get any more news, we will let you know.

Ohio State keeps hopes of winning Big Ten alive.

By: Cooper Ledford
The Ohio State Buckeyes traveled to Happy Valley to take on Penn State. This was a Big Ten elimination game, and OSU was looking for revenge, PSU was looking to beat the Buckeyes for the 2nd consecutive year. Penn State failed however, Ohio State wins it, 24-7. Here's how.

On the Buckeyes' second drive, after a long punt return from Ray Small, Pryor ran it in 7 yards, and OH-IO had the lead 7-0. Penn State answered back when quarterback Daryll Clark ran it in 1 yard away, we were tied at 7. Pennsylvania State would not get any more points though. Later on in the 2nd QRT, OSU kicker Devin Barclay kicked a 37 yard field goal and it was 10-0 OSU at the half.
Into the second half, Ohio State got a bigger lead, in big play fashion, DeVier Posey caught the 62 yard bomb from Terrelle Pryor for a TD, it was 17-7 Ohio State on top into the 4th. The Buckeyes would get more when running back, Brandon Saine caught a 6 yard pass from Pryor to make it 24-7 and that is the final.
So Ohio State still can win the Big Ten, IF they beat Iowa and Michigan, as for Pryor, he went 8/17, 125 yards, 2 passing Tds and 1 rushing. Ohio State now leads the all time series 13-12. GO BUCKS!!!!
