Xavier Wins in Triple OT

CINCINNATI – Xavier won another close battle at Cintas Center 94-90 in triple-overtime over the Wofford Terriers. Xavier was led by Junior Tu Holloway with 28 points and 7 assists. Sophomore Mark Lyons scored a career-high 23 points and finished with a career-high 3 blocks. Junior Kenny Frease recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and grabbing a game-high and career-high 18 boards. Senior Jamel McLean also had a double-double with a career-high 22 points and 12 rebounds.
McLean put Xavier ahead in the third overtime with a lay-in on an assist by senior Dante Jackson. After Holloway and Jeff Robinson each made one-of-two free throws and Lyons sank a pair of free throws the Musketeers held a six-point advantage with 1:42 remaining in the third overtime. Noah Dahlman responded for Wofford with a six-point run of his own. Holloway sank a jumper to put Xavier up two with nine seconds left. Lyons corralled a Terrier miss with 1.3 seconds remaining and made both free throws to seal the victory for Xavier.
Xavier quickly jumped out to a four point lead in the second overtime behind baskets from Frease and McLean. Brad Loesing answered with a three from the corner and Tim Johnson scored on an offensive rebound to give the Terriers the lead with 2:38 remaining. After a Wofford free throw, Mark Lyons scored on a lay-in to tie the game at 83. With 23.3 seconds left in the second overtime, Johnson made a free throw to give Wofford a one-point lead. McLean was fouled and sank one-of-two free throws to tie the game. Wofford drove down the floor and put up a shot at the buzzer that went in the basket. However, after a second look on the replay monitor by the referees, the basket was disallowed and sent the game into a third overtime.

A McLean free throw gave Xavier a one point lead in the first overtime, the two teams exchanged a pair of baskets and Xavier maintained its one point advantage with 2:18 to play in overtime. On the ensuing possession Loesing sank a three-pointer from the left wing giving Wofford a two point lead.
McLean made the second of a pair of free throws with 59 seconds left in the first overtime to pull within a point. Wofford’s Dahlman completed a three-point play with 40 seconds remaining giving them a four point advantage. Lyons countered with a lay-in of his own to pull within two. Following a Dahlman free throw, Holloway raced down the floor for a lay-up and pulled within one. Dahlman made a fast break layup leading to a dramatic ending to the first overtime. Jackson was fouled on the inbounds pass and sank the first. After intentionally missing the second, McLean tapped the ball high into the air and it found the bottom of the net to send the game into the second over time.
A Wofford 3-pointer at the beginning of the second half cut the Xavier lead to four points. Xavier answered by going on a 9-2 run over the next 5:48 to take a 44-33 lead at the 14:46 mark. Wofford went on a 25-6 run to take an eight point lead into the final media timeout.
Xavier responded by going on a 6-0 run of its own on the first three possessions out of the timeout to cut the lead to two. All six points were scored by Holloway from the free throw line. After a pair of Terrier free throws from Jamar Diggs, Holloway countered with another pair of his own again cutting the lead to two.
With just over a minute to play, McLean scored on a tip-in to tie the game. After a missed Wofford jumper, Lyons was fouled in the scramble for the loose ball. Lyons calmly sank both free throws giving Xavier the two point lead. Cameron Rundles came back a knocked down a jumper with 10.8 seconds left to tie the game. Holloway’s three-point attempt fell short forcing the second overtime battle of the season for Xavier.
Saturday's game marked the fourth triple overtime game in Xavier’s history; the last was a 90-86 set-back at Massachusetts in 2005. Xavier is now 3-1 all-time in triple overtime games.
At the end of the first half of action, Xavier held a 35-28 lead over Wofford. Holloway led all scorers at the half with 13 points and six assists. Frease scored eight points and hauled in four rebounds. Xavier led by as many as 12 points in the half.
Wofford was led by Dahlman with game-high 33 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Diggs contributed 15 points for the Terriers who fall to 2-5 on the season.
The Xavier men’s basketball team will be in action on Wednesday, December 1 against Miami (Ohio) in Oxford, Ohio. Game time against the RedHawks is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET at Millett Hall and can be viewed on FOX Sports Ohio.

Buckeyes Win More Gold Pants

By:  Cooper Ledford

Ohio State vs. Michigan, THE GAME, the biggest rivalry in all of sports, was taking place in Columbus.  Ohio State was the 8th ranked team in the country, their record was 10-1.  Michigan was not ranked, and were 7-4.  Ohio State was trying to get their 7th consecutive win over Michigan, and their 6th consecutive Big Ten Title.  Ohio State accomplished their goal of beating the Wolverines, as they dominated and won 37-7, and win more Gold Pants.

This was a typical Ohio State vs. Michigan game, tons of personal fouls, small fights on many of the plays, and some unnecessary roughness penalties.  There is no such thing as "unnecessary roughness" in any rivalry game, let alone THE GAME.  Ohio State was also flagged for two Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalties after touchdowns.

Ohio State scored first, in the 2nd quarter with a 33 yard field goal from Barclay, 3-0 OSU on top.  The Buckeyes would add on to their lead 12:29 to go in the 2nd, when Terrelle Pryor and Dane Sanzenbacher connected for a 7 yard touchdown score, 10-0 the More-Southern Team on top.

Michigan would get on the board with 8:02 to go in the 2nd, when Micheal Shaw ran it in from 1 yard out, it was a 1 possession game, 10-7.

Then, on the kickoff, Jordan Hall returned it for an 85 yard touchdown.  Yes, 85 yards.  Great play by the Sophomore from Pennsylvania.  The Buckeyes had 17-7 lead.   Still in the 2nd quarter, Terrelle Pryor connected with DeVier Posey for a 33 yard touchdown, the score was 24-7.  Then, OSU got the ball back, and looked like they were about to get at least 3, but on 3rd down inside the 30, Terrelle Pryor threw an interception that would keep OSU from scoring, and would send the game to the half.  24-7.

In the 3rd quarter, Dan "Boom" Herron got his first touchdown of the game, with a 33 yard run, 31-7 the score after the extra point.  Woody would have went for two, I would have too, but the conservative Jim Tressel did not.   Later on, Ohio State started their drive from the 2 yard line.  On the first play of the drive, Boom Herron ran for a 98 yard touchdown.  Oh my gosh, the longest play in Ohio State Football Histo....wait.  What's that?  Holding on the offense on the 9 yard line?  10 yard penalty?  Crap.  That made it 1st and 20 from the 19, but still, Dan Herron ties the Ohio State record for longest play from scrimmage.  That was set back in 1942, fitting right?  Since Ohio State was dawning throwback jerseys from 1942, to honor WW2 vets, and the Ohio State 1942 Buckeyes, who won a National Championship, the first in school history.  Anyways, back to the game, after that run by Boom, the Bucks would settle for a 36 yard field goal by Barclay.  The score was 34-7.

Devin Barclay would finish off the scoring in the game with 1:08 to go in the 3rd with a 23 yard field goal, 37-7 the score.  After that, that is when the fans started singing the same song they sang when OSU was blowing out Eastern Michigan, the famous "We don't give a d@#* for the whole state of Michigan" song.  Once again, 37-7 the score, and that is how THE GAME would finish.  Ohio State wins by 30.  Michigan fails to ruin Ohio State's Senior Day, and their BCS Chances.

Ohio State can go to the Rose Bowl if Wisconsin loses to Northwestern.  That might not happen.  They can go to a BCS Bowl game even if Wisconsin wins, they could get an at large bid to more than likely the Orange Bowl.

As for stats, Terrelle Pryor went 18/27, had 219 yards, 2 TD's, and 1 INT.  Dan "Boom" Herron had a heck of a game with 22 carries for 175 yards.  DeVier lead the way in receiving with 5 receptions for 1 TD.  Sanzenbacher also had 1 TD.  The Silver Bullet defense did struggle containing Denard Robinson, as they allowed 105 rushing yards on 18 carries.  Shoelace was tied up pretty well though.  Shoelace passed for 87 yards.  The Bucks defense also forced 2 fumbles, recovered them both, and picked off Tate Forcier 1 time.  That pick was by Howard.

Jim Tressel is now 9-1 all time versus the Wolverines.  The Men Of The Scarlet And Gray have won 7 strait games over The Team Up North, and have won 6 strait Big Ten Championships.

The Buckeyes will not play again until January.  Ohio State had a very successful season, but only one game will haunt them, the loss to Wisconsin when OSU was the #1 ranked team in the nation.

Until the Bowl Game...

#3 Ohio State is at home to face Miami (OH)
The Bengals lose to the tough Jets 26-10 on the road
The Bengals were in the game for the 1st half, but the Jets [9-2] came back and won vs the Cincinnati Bengals [2-9]

I am hoping since we can't have a winning season we could get the 1st pick of the draft!
After this HORRID season from the Bengals, they need that 1st pick
"The Bengals, had a great season last year, and we are hungry for another winning season"
"We should go at least 10-6" 2-14 (Quote by me during the off-season)

BUT, he have hope for the Ohio State Buckeyes Basketball season, we picked up a 5-star recruit named Jared Sullinger to lead our team to a great big-man as talented as him! Oden in '07 was the last player we had that talented! Now Oden is injured AGAIN!

On to Kentucky
November 30th is their next game vs BOSTON UNIVERSITY

Joey Votto Wins NL MVP

CINCINNATI -- Often reluctant to discuss his own personal accomplishments, Reds first baseman Joey Votto has done something that will speak volumes for him over the remainder of his career.
Votto was named the National League's Most Valuable Player on Monday.
In balloting that took place at the end of the regular season by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, Votto received 31 out of a possible 32 first-place votes and 443 points to earn his first MVP. It prevented Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols from winning his third in a row and fourth overall.

Although he was the NL Silver Slugger and Gold Glove winner at first base, Pujols was second in the voting with 279 points, netting the other first-place vote and 21 second-place votes. Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez was next with 240 points. He appeared second on seven ballots.

Complete vote totals
Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay finished 4-5-6 in the voting.
Votto, 27, became the 12th Reds player to win the NL MVP Award and the first since Barry Larkin in 1995. The Cardinals have won the most NL MVPs, with 17, second to the Yankees' 20 in the American League.
The AL MVP will be revealed by the BBWAA on Tuesday.
Clearly, the voters did not penalize Votto for not leading any of the three Triple Crown categories. Gonzalez won the batting title with a .336 average and Pujols had the most home runs (42) and RBIs (118).
Still, Votto finished among the top three in 11 offensive statistical categories and was first in important stats like slugging percentage (.600) and on-base percentage (.424). He was second in the NL with a .324 average and was third in both home runs, with 37, and RBIs, with 113 -- all career highs. He was tied for fourth with 106 runs scored, was sixth with 177 hits and fifth with 91 walks.

And perhaps most important, Votto helped get the Reds to the NL Central title and their first playoff berth since the Larkin-led club won the division in 1995.
In 2009, Votto was nationally known primarily for being a player who spent a month on the disabled list to deal with depression and anxiety caused by difficulties with his emotions following the sudden 2008 death of his father, Joseph. Even after returning and posting strong numbers with a .322 average and 25 homers, it happened well out of the spotlight since Cincinnati was out of contention.
This year, no one could ignore what Votto did on the field. After being left off of the original NL All-Star team, he made the squad after more than 13 million fans added him to the roster via the online All-Star Final Vote. On Aug. 30, Votto became the first Reds player to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated since Ken Griffey Jr. in 2004.

Xavier Advances to Paradise Jam Championship Game

ST. THOMAS, V.I. - In dramatic fashion and with some Tu Holloway fireworks, Xavier defeated Seton Hall in the second round of the Paradise Jam 57-52. With Xavier holding a 52-49 lead with 50 seconds remaining, Jamal Jackson hit a three-pointer for Seton Hall to tie the game. Holloway responded by hitting a fade-away three-pointer from the left baseline with 17 seconds remaining to put Xavier ahead for good. Kenny Frease corralled a Seton Hall miss and made both free throws to seal the victory.
Holloway led Xavier with a career-high 31points making 9-of-16 (56.3 percent) field goals and sinking 10-of-13 (76.9 percent) from the free throw line. This marks the fourth consecutive game this season and fifth game dating back to last season in which Holloway scored over 20 points. Holloway reached the 20-point mark with a floater from the right wing with 10:25 remaining in the second half.
Jamel McLean grabbed 12 boards and added four points. This marks the third consecutive game in which McLean has hauled in double-digit rebounds. Frease and Mark Lyons both added eight points for Xavier, who improves to 4-0 on the season.
On the strength of a strong first-half defense, Xavier led by ten points at the break. Seton Hall went on an 8-0 run starting at the 6:44 mark in the second half. Two free-throws off of a Dante Jackson foul, his fifth of the game, cut the lead to one point, 44-43. On the ensuing possession, Lyons drained a long range three from the top of the key and Holloway followed with a jumper to push the lead back to six. Another spurt from Seton Hall set up the exciting finish.
The Musketeers blanketed Seton Hall's shooters and held them to 19-of-56 shooting (33.9 percent) for the game. From beyond the arc, Seton Hall shot only 5-of-20 for 25 percent.

In the first half of action, Xavier's defense was stifling for Seton Hall. Over the final 8:32 of the half, Xavier held the Pirates to two points and held a lead of 28-18. The Pirates shot 21.2 percent (7-of-33) from the floor, 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from three-point range. Over the last 8:19 of the half, the Musketeers held the pirates to two points. Xavier was led by Holloway with 12 points (4-for-8) and McLean with nine rebounds at halftime. Frease contributed six points and four boards during the half.
Xavier will face Old Dominion, who beat Clemson 61-60, in the championship game. This will mark the second time that Xavier has played for the championship of the Paradise Jam. In the 2006 finale, Xavier lost 63-56 to then No. 8-Alabama.
Xavier will wrap up their three-game trip to St. Thomas for the Paradise Jam, held at the University of the Virgin Islands, when they face Old Dominion on Monday, November 22. Tip-off is set for 8:20 ET and the game can be seen on Fox Sports Net. The local alternate channels carrying the national broadcast will be announced Monday on foxsportsohio.com.

OSU Rallies To Beat Iowa

By:  Cooper Ledford

The Ohio State Buckeyes (9-1, 5-1) were in Iowa City, Iowa taking on the Iowa Hawkeyes (7-3, 4-2).  Ohio State was playing to stay alive in the Big Ten Championship hunt, and get their ticket to a BCS Bowl Game, while Iowa was trying to improve their disappointing record.  If Ohio State lost, they would not go to a BCS Bowl game, nor win a share of the Big Ten Title, but luckily for Buckeye fans, like me, they won.  They rallied to get the win 20-17.  Here is how.

With 1:05 to go in the 1st Quarter, Ricky Stanzi connected with Marvin McNutt for the touchdown, 7-0 the score.

Ohio State would answer back with 11:34 to go in the 2nd with an 18 yard field goal by Barclay, 7-3.  When Iowa later on got the ball back, they were driving, but their kicker, Micheal Meyer missed a 40 yard field goal.  That was HUGE in this game.  7-3 would be the score at the half.

The Buckeyes scored first in the 2nd half.  Terrelle Pryor connected with Reid Fragel for a 5 yard touchdown pass, and the Men Of The Scarlet And Gray had a 10-7 lead.

Micheal Meyer answered back with a field gaol from 31 yards out to tie the game up at 10.

To the 4th quarter, Marcus Coker started things off with a 1 yard touchdown run with just under 12 minutes to go, Iowa lead 17-10.

With 7:38 to go in the 4th, Jim Tressel called on Devin Barclay to try for a 48 yard field goal attempt, it was good.  17-13 the score, Hawks still on top.  Later on, with only 1:47 to go, Ohio State had the ball from the Iowa 1 yard line, it was 2nd and goal, Pryor hands it to Herron, for a 1 yard touchdown run, Bucks lead 19-17....But wait!!! "The previous play in under further review" Replays show that Boom did break the goal line, therefore, it is a touchdown, 20-17 the score after the PAT.

But, Iowa would have to get the ball back.  OSU's defense played well, and did not let them do anything.  Ohio State wins it, they are 10-1 and are still alive in the Big Ten.

Coach Jim Tressel said "We felt like it was going to be a four-quarter heavyweight bout. Iowa's never going to stop fighting," Tressel said. "Our guys never stop."

This is the second year in a row that Ohio State has beat Iowa by just a field goal.

The Bucks have trailed or been tied early on in 6 of their games (Miami (FL), Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Penn State, and Iowa) and have came back to win 5 of those games.

"I hate losing with a passion" said Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor.  Luckily for him, he does not have to have hate in his heart on this day.  Speaking of Terrelle Pryor, he had 18 completions on 33 attempts, 195 yards passing, 1 touchdown, but 2 picks.  Even though he had 2 picks and his stats were not amazing, he was able to create plays and help the #9 Ohio State Buckeyes beat the #20 Iowa Hawkeyes.  Ricky Stanzie also had 195 yards, 1 touchdown, but no picks.  Both QB's have 23 total touchdown passes on the season.

Next, Ohio State will return home to take on "The Team Up North" in THE GAME.  THE GAME will be at 12:00 Noon, and will be televised on ABC.  Ohio State will be playing to get win number 11 and get a free ticket to a BCS Bowl, while the other team will be playing to get a win over a ranked team.  Both teams will be playing to beat each other, as it is the Biggest Rivalry in All of Sports.

Xavier Holds On To Beat Iowa

By:  Cooper Ledford

The Xavier Musketeers (2-0) were in the US Virgin Islands for the US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam.  Xavier's opponent was the Iowa Hawkeyes, who were 1-1.  Xavier had a huge lead through out a lot of this game, but it ended up coming down to be a close game.  But, Xavier was able to win 86-73.

With 12 minutes to go in the 2nd period, the Musketeers had a 20 point lead, very comfortable, but, Iowa fought back and brought it within 10 with about 3 minutes to go.  Xavier would get some very important fouls, along with some 2-point jumpers, and free throws.

Soon, with only 1:25 to go in the game, it was only a single-digit game, an 8 point, 79-71 lead for XU.  But then, the Hawks fouled Xavier like crazy, bringing Muskies to the line.  More importantly, Xavier was making those free throws.  Xavier holds on to win it.

Tu Holloway lead the way...again.  Tu had a career high, 28 points.  He also had 6 rebounds.  Mark Lyons and Jeff Robinson were the other Musketeers with double-digits.  Lyons had 18 points, while Robinson had 15.

Xavier is now 3-0, and will play in the US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Championship game. That game will be Sunday at 8:30 PM ET against Seton Hall. That game will be on FCS.
