Xavier Holds On To Beat Iowa

The Xavier Musketeers (2-0) were in the US Virgin Islands for the US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam.  Xavier's opponent was the Iowa Hawkeyes, who were 1-1.  Xavier had a huge lead through out a lot of this game, but it ended up coming down to be a close game.  But, Xavier was able to win 86-73.

With 12 minutes to go in the 2nd period, the Musketeers had a 20 point lead, very comfortable, but, Iowa fought back and brought it within 10 with about 3 minutes to go.  Xavier would get some very important fouls, along with some 2-point jumpers, and free throws.

Soon, with only 1:25 to go in the game, it was only a single-digit game, an 8 point, 79-71 lead for XU.  But then, the Hawks fouled Xavier like crazy, bringing Muskies to the line.  More importantly, Xavier was making those free throws.  Xavier holds on to win it.

Tu Holloway lead the way...again.  Tu had a career high, 28 points.  He also had 6 rebounds.  Mark Lyons and Jeff Robinson were the other Musketeers with double-digits.  Lyons had 18 points, while Robinson had 15.

Xavier is now 3-0, and will play in the US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Championship game. That game will be Sunday at 8:30 PM ET against Seton Hall. That game will be on FCS.
