OSU Destroys Minnesota

By:  Cooper Ledford

The #11/#10 Ohio State Buckeyes were on the road vs. the Minnesota Golden Gophers.  Minnesota was 1-8, 0-4 in the Big Ten, while Ohio State was 7-1, and 3-1 in the Big Ten.  According to ESPN.com, of the people that voted, the Buckeyes were favored 99.5% to win.  That 99.5% was right, as the Bucks did more than win, they dominated.  52-10 the final, as the Buckeyes scored on all 3 sides of the ball, and 7 different Buckeyes score a touchdown.  Here is how all of the action took place.

Ohio State got the ball first, and they got a touchdown thanks to Terrelle Pryor with a 1 yard touchdown run/dive on 3rd and goal.  7-0 OSU.

The Gophers would answer back on their first drive when DeLeon Eskridge ran it in from 7 yards out, tied at 7.

Then, once again, the Bucks would score on their next drive as Brandon Saine caught Terrelle Pryor's pass for a 3 yard touchdown, 14-7, and the Men Of The Scarlet And Gray were on top, that would be the score at the end of the 1st quarter.

In the 2nd quarter, Ohio State got a field goal with 08:24 to go, a 23 yarder by Barclay, 17-7 the score.  Then, 7 minutes later, Dan Herron ran for a 10 yard score, Boom goes the Herron, 24-7 the score.  With only 24 seconds to go before the half, Terrelle Pryor connected with DeVier Posey for a 38 yard touchdown score, 31-7 the score at the half.

Minnesota would score first in the second half, but they only got a field goal.  It was Ellestad with a 33 yard kick, 31-10.

The 11 Warriors, which are Brave And Bold ya' know, would do more than answer back.  On a punt (with 04:10 to go in the 3rd quarter) the snap was bad, the punt was blocked and my step mom's former co-worker's boyfriend, Zach Domicone dived on the ball in the endzone for a touchdown.  Last year, Domicone recovered a dropped punt against the Gophers, just though some people would find that interesting.  Anyways, 38-10 was the score going into the 4th.

The Buckeyes would scored twice in the 4th quarter, the first score was a 16 yard touchdown run by sophomore, Jordan Hall, 45-10 the score.  Then, on a fumble by Weber, John Simon pick up the ball and took it back to the house for a 30 yard fumble recovery score, 52-10 the score and the final.

Ohio State is now 8-1, Minnesota is now 1-8.  OSU should move up in the polls, as Missouri andMichigan State both fall, and were undefeated.

The Buckeyes starts shined today, as Pryor went 18/22, good for 222 yards, 2 TD, and 1 pick.  Dan "Boom" Herron had 17 carries, and 114 rushing yards and 1 TD.  DeVier Posey had 6 receptions, 115 yards, and 1 TD.

Next, Ohio State will have a BYE week, then they will resume play at the Horseshoe on Saturday, November 13th, against Penn State.  The time of the game is TBA and is also TBA for TV.  As soon as we find out, we will be sure to tell ya.

Brad Redford Possibly Out For Season

By:  Cooper Ledford

Xavier Junior Guard, Brad Redford, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament that will require reconstructive surgery.

Xavier University Head Team Physician Robert R. Burger, M.D., said: “Brad Redford suffered a left knee anterior cruciate ligament tear during a practice session yesterday. Because of the nature of the injury, he will undergo reconstructive surgery sometime in the near future. We anticipate Brad will miss the 2010-11 season but will make a full recovery for the future.”

This is not good news for the Xavier basketball team.  Redford established himself as one of the nations best three-point shooters.

Bengals Come Back, But Handed The Loss

By: Hunter Hendrickson

On Sunday, the Bengals needed a Win despratley, The Falcons werent gonna play easy, heres what happened...

The Falcons scored 1st with a 3YD TD pass from Matt Ryan to Brian Finneran to make it 7-0.

The Bengals Drove it, then like always Carson Palmer Screwed up and the Bengals had to settle for a FG making it 7-3. The Bengals Defense was just HORRIBLE after this.

Matt Bryant hit a 45 YD FG making it 10-3, but it got worse, Matt Ryan Connected Roddy White for a 43-YD TD making it 17-3 and a lot of Bengals fans have Giving up.Guess what Bengals fans, IT GOT EVEN WORSE!!!

The Falcons scored to make it 24-3 at the Half with a Micheal Turner 2-YD run. Defense was Much better in the 3rd same with Carson Palmer.

The Bengals scored 22 Points in the 3rd quarter and the Defense for the Bengals was SO good that it held the Falcons to 0 points in the 3rd quarter. Way to go Bengals D!!!!

The Bengals scored with a Mike Nugent 33 YD FG to make it 24-6. Bengals Getting back in it!!

The Bengals scored next by a 19 YD TD pass from Carson Palmer to T.o. making it 24-13. T.O. and Chad Ochocinco both had TDs in this game. The Bengals next Outing was a TD with a 64 YD TD pass from Carson Palmer to the Rookie out of Texas making it 24-19!

The Bengals kick the ball off to the Falcons after that TD on then 1st set of downs Ryan Fumbles and "Pacman" Jones picks it up AND HE WILL GO ALL THE WAY!!!!!!Bengals miss the 2-point Conversion but they do lead it 25-24!!!!

But thats when the Bengals D was bad again Giving up 2 TDs and the score was once again a TD lead at 39-25.

The Bengals scored one last time making it 39-32 and thats how it ended Carson Palmer had a Great game heres some stats 36/50 412 YD passing and the Bengals go down again and Travel to 2-4. Next up will be The Miami Dolpins.

Ohio State Pounds Purdue

By:  Cooper Ledford

Last year, #7Ohio State was upset by Purdue, this year was a different story.  The Buckeyes were coming off a loss to Wisconsin, and were looking to bounce back, and get revenge on the Boilermakers, and that they did.  Ohio State dominated PU and won 49-0, here is how.

On the Buckeyes first possession, Dan "Boom" Herron had a 10 yard touchdown run, and OSU was up 7-0.  Make it 14-0 after another touchdown run by Herron, this one for 2 yards.  So, Dan Herron was looking good early on, he finished with 75 yards on 15 carries. 14-0 was the score at the end of the 1st quarter.

Ohio State would be back at it in the 2nd, when Jordan Hall ran it in from 1 yard out 21-0 the score.  So all 3 scores were from the ground.  The 10th ranked Buckeyes would get points through the air when Terrelle Pryor connected with DeVier Posey for a 22 yard score, 28-0.  Then, Pryor and Sanzenbacher would connect for a 7 yard score, 35-0 the score.  Corey Brown would get a TD reception from Pryor as well, it was 15 yard score, 42-0 the score at the half.

There would be no scoring at all in the 3rd quarter, maybe because Joe Bauserman was playing.  In the 4th quarter, there was scoring, and Bauserman was playing.  He connected with Spencer Smith for a 23 yard touchdown pass.  Has anyone ever even heard of Spencer Smith?  49-0 would be the score, and that is how she finished.

A great job by the offense, because they scored 49, and defense, because they shut out a team for the first time this season.  Terrelle Pryor went 16/22, had 270 passing yards, had 3 touchdowns, and threw 2 picks.

Ohio State is now 7-1, they are guaranteed to have a winning record, and go to a bowl game, but they have much higher aspirations and expectations than that.

Next week, Ohio State will go to Minnesota and take on the struggling Golden Gophers.  Game time will be at 8:00 PM ET and will be televised on ABC.

#18Wisconsin Upsets #1Ohio State

By:  Cooper Ledford

The Ohio State Buckeyes, who were #1 were in a tough environment, playing a tough team.  They were in Madison, Wisconsin, taking on the Badgers.  Wiscy jumped up early and looked like it would be a blow out, but Ohio State rallied, came with in 3, but only to lose 31-18.  Here is how it all happened.

On the very first play of the game, the kickoff, David Gilreath returned it for a touchdown, 97 yards, 7-0.  Then, with exactly 10 minutes to go, the great running back, John Clay, ran in for a 14 yard score, 14-0 at the end of a quarter.  Early in the 2nd, John Clay would get a 1 yard touchdown run, 21-0 and the Buckeyes were looking terrible.

Ohio State would get on the board with a 21 yard field goal off the foot of Barclay, 21-3 the score at the half.

Ohio State would score first in the 3rd with a 13 yard touchdown run by Dan "Boom" Herron, it became a game all-of-a-sudden, 21-10.  Then, in the 4th quarter with 11:38 to go, it was Boom with a 1 yard score, a touchdown, the Buckeye would go for 2, it was good, 21-18 the score.  Don't look now, but it is a 3 point, 1 possession game.

Wisconsin would answer back though, with a touchdown and a field goal, 31-18 the final.  Ohio State falls, they will go to 6-1, and have a Big Ten record of 2-1.  It was a great comeback effort for the Buckeyes, but they looked absolutly terrible in the 1st half, and that is what hurt them.  Wisconsin may not really be a better team than OSU, but on this night, they were.

John Clay rushed for 104 yards on 21 carries, and he was the first man to get 100+ rushing yards against the Buckeyes in 30 games.

Next, Ohio State will be hosting Purdue, who upset them last year.  OSU will not be #1, but no doubt still ranked, and probably in the top 10.  Game time will be at Noon ET and on the Big Ten Network.

Why I Say The Buckeyes Will Beat Wisconsin

By:  Cooper Ledford

The #1Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0, 2-0) are going to Madison, Wisconsin tonight to take on the #18Wisconsin Badgers (5-1, 1-1).  58% of Americans that voted on ESPN.com picked Ohio State to win a remain undefeated.  Lee Corso picked Wiscy though, Desmond Howard (who went to Michigan) picked Ohio State, I have to agree with Desmond and the 58% of Americans that say OSU will win.  I am not just saying that because I am a huge Buckeye fan.  Here are my reasons why:

  • Terrelle Pryor- He is 2nd on the Heisman watch list.  He is powerful, can run the ball when he needs to, and is a great passer.  He is a great quarterback, and it will be tough for the Wisconsin defense to handle Terrelle Pryor.
  • Ohio State's defense- The Buckeye defense may be the best in the nation, they have a great rush defense and a very good secondary and pass defense.  Even though Scott Tolzien is great, he may not have his way with the Bucks defense.  The Wiscy O-line is not all that great, they are good, but the Ohio State defense is a better d-line than UW's o-line is and o-line.  I predict that Tolzien will be pressured a lot.
  • Brandon Saine- Ohio State's RB, Brandon Saine has not been playing a whole lot in the back field, he has been getting a lot of work as a WR.  Jim Tressel says he is his 3rd best WR, behind Sanzenbacher and Posey.  Saine is very fast, and knows how to get open.  If Brandon gets open, he will be gone.  Watch out for Zoom.

So, those are my 3 reasons why the Ohio State Buckeyes will win.  My final score prediction is 24-21 in OT.  Game time is at 7:00 PM ET and is on ESPN.

Cincy Cages the Cards

By:  Cooper Ledford

The Cincinnati Bearcats were 2-3 going into this game, Friday the 15th, and were starting Big East play.  They were in Louisville, KY taking on the Cardinals.  UC came out on top, 35-27, and have won 14 strait Big East games.  Here is how it all happened.

In the 1st quarter with 12:42 to go, Zach Collaros connected with DJ Woods for a 47 yard touchdown score, 7-0 Bearcats on top.

L'ville would tie it up 6 minutes later, when Froman found Chichester for an 11 yard touchdown score, 7-7 the score.

Cincinnati would answer back with 2:25 to go in the 1st with a touchdown pass from Collaros to Armon Binns, a 10 yard score, 14-7 the score.

But, the Cardinals would tie it up when Powell had an 85 yard touchdown run with 1:20 to go, and at the end of the 1st quarter, it was 14-14.

After a field goal and touchdown run, Louisville had the lead 24-14.  But, after a touchdown pass from Collaros to Binns, again, a 31 yard play, UC made the score 24-21 at the half.

The 3rd quarter DJ Woods caught his 2nd touchdown of the night, a 14 yard score, and the Bearcats had the lead 28-24.

In the 4th quarter, Louisville would get a field goal to make it 28-27, but UC would pull out the dagger when Collaros went deep for Binns, the catch was made, and it was a touchdown, 62 yards, 35-27 the final.

Collaros went 18/28, had 275 passing yards, 5 TD's, and 2 picks.

Cincinnati is now 3-3, and will host South Florida next week, that game will be Saturday on ESPN2, and at 8:00 PM ET.

Reds Great Season Comes To an End

By: Cooper Ledford

The NL Central Champions, the Cincinnati Reds, were hosting the NL East Champions, the Philadelphia Phillies,  Sunday night, October the 10th, 2010, at Great American Ball Park.  The Phillies won, 2-0, and the great season the Reds had, comes to a close.  But, they did have a great season, so nothing to hang your heads about if you are a Reds fan.

The Phils took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning with a throwing error by Orlando Cabrera, then later in the game, Phillies 2nd baseman, Chase Utley hit a solo home run, 2-0, and that was the final.

Congratulations to the Phillies on advancing, but more so, Congrats to the Reds on an amazing 2010 season.

OSU Handles Indiana

By:  Cooper Ledford

The #2 Ohio State Buckeyes, who were 5-0, were in the 'Shoe taking on the Indiana Hoosiers, who were 3-1.  Ohio State was coming off of a close game win over Illinois, while IU was coming off of a tough loss to Michigan.  Also, Terrelle Pryor was injured in last weeks game, but he did not show any signs of that against Indiana, as Ohio State had their way vs. Indy, as they won 38-10, here's how.

Just 2 minutes into the game, and after 3 pass plays, Dan Herron took it to the house, a 39-yard touchdown run, and OSU was on top 7-0.  Then. with about 6 and a half minutes left in the 1st quarter, Terrelle Pryor connected with Dane Sanzenbacher through the air for a 22 yard score, 14-0 at the end of the 1st.

The 2nd quarter would be all Ohio State.  2 minutes into the quarter, Brandon Saine caught a 60 yard touchdown pass from Pryor, a longin', 21-0.  Then, with about 7 minutes to go in the 2nd, Posey was on the receiving end from Pryor, in the endzone, 17 yard touchdown pass, 28-0 the score.  Ohio State would add a 36 yard field goal off the foot of Barclay before the half, 31-0 the score.

In the 3rd quarter, both teams scored once.  OSU scored 1st with a 8 yard touchdown run from Boom Herron, 38-0 the score.

The Indiana Hoosiers would get a 36 yard field goal from Mitch Ewald to make it 38-7.

In the 4th quarter, their would only be 1 score, that would be a 1 yard TD run by Antonio Banks, 38-10 the score, and that's how she finished.

Terrelle Pryor, who some thought would be limited, looked better than ever today.  He went 24/30, had a career high 334 yards, passed for 3 touchdowns, and had no picks.  So the Heisman candidate rebounds from a not-so-great effort last week.

As for another Heisman candidate, Denard Robinson, QB for Michigan, his team lost to Michigan State, good news.  Also, Northwestern lost to Purdue, so there remains 2 unbeaten teams in the Big Ten, that being Ohio State, and Michigan State.

#1Alabama lost to #19South Carolina, so more than likely, Ohio State will be the #1 team in the nation when the polls come out.

Next week, Ohio State will play in their biggest test yet, at Wisconsin.  Game time is at 7:00 PM ET and will be televised on ESPN.

Roy Halladay Throws No-Hitter, Beats Reds In Game 1

By:  Cooper Ledford

In game one of the NLDS from Philadelphia, the Reds were taking on the Phillies.  This was the Reds first playoff game in 15 years, 1995, that was one year before I was born, so it has been a lifetime and more since they have been to the playoffs.  So, the Reds were looking for a win to start off the 2010 post-season, but Phillies starter, Roy Halladay denied that, as he made history and threw a no hitter.  The Phillies end up winning 4-0, here is how it all happened.

In the 1st inning, Chase Utley hit a sac fly to bring in Victorino, 1-0 the score.

The 2nd inning would be terrible for the Reds, and it could have been a lot better, if Orlando Cabrera made the smart move and went to first to get the out, but he tried to do to much and go to 2nd.  That would allow the pitcher, Roy Halladay to the plate, and he would bring in a run with an RBI single, Ruiz would score and it was 2-0.  Then, next batter, Victorino hit a 2 RBI single, Valdez and Halladay would score, 4-0 the score.

That is all it would take.

The winner is of course, Roy Halladay who went a complete game, no hitter, 1 walk, 8 punch outs...amazing.

Edinson Volquez is the loser who only went 1.2 innings and gave up 4 hits and 4 ER's.

Roy Halladay is the 5th pitcher in MLB history to throw a perfect game AND no hitter in the same season.

The good news for the Reds, this is only the 1st game of the series.

Xavier Basketball's New Look

CINCINNATI - Xavier University's men's basketball program unveiled its new style game jerseys and shorts for the upcoming season. It's the first uniform designed by Nike under Xavier's new five-year Nike NTS Contract.
The Nike NTS Contract, which covers customized uniforms, gear and equipment, is the highest level of Nike Contract you can obtain without winning a basketball national championship. The 30-35 schools at this level currently include Texas, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh and Florida State. Xavier is one of only six schools without BCS football that are at the NTS level, joining Gonzaga, Marquette, Saint John's, Georgetown and Villanova.

"This is another important part of what sets Xavier apart as an elite basketball program," said Xavier head coachChris Mack. "Our players love the new uniforms and I know our fans will as well."

Nike has designed Navy, White and Gray versions of the new uniforms. In addition, Nike will produce a Throwback jersey for use in one of Xavier's nationally-televised home games.

"The Xavier program has had a terrific relationship with Nike Basketball since 2001," said Mack. "This promotion further represents our commitment to them as well as their commitment to us."

Nike is also producing official replica jerseys in the new design, including kids sizes. They are expected to be available in late October, at least a week prior to the first exhibition game on Nov. 2.

Dusty Baker Re-signs With Reds

By:  Cooper Ledford

Reds Manager, Dusty Baker, has agreed to a 2-year deal with Cincinnati, good through 2012.

"I am happy, my family is happy, my coaches are happy" Baker said.  "To me, this is just the first step in a long line of wins and excellent years."

The 61-year-old skipper is in his 3rd season with the Reds, as he is an even record at 243-243.

One of the biggest beneficiaries was of Baker's even hand was right fielder Jay Bruce, who endured a miserable month of July amid calls he should be sent down. Bruce came on strong the final two months, as did center fielder Drew Stubbs, who finished his first full season with 20 home runs and 30 steals.
"He's a great guy to play for," Bruce said. "It breeds confidence, breeds comfort and it lets us be successful when you're not looking over your shoulder the whole time. He's easy to play for."

Ohio State Holds off Illinois

By:  Cooper Ledford

The 2nd ranked Buckeyes were visiting their rivals, Illinois, in the battle for the Illibuck trophy.  There were a lot of Buckeye fans in Illinois, that's why some Buckeyes like to call it "Buckeye West", but the high number of traveling fans did not help Ohio State glide to a victory.  It was a typical Big Ten football game, defense dominated, low scoring, and close score.  Ohio State was able to remain undefeated, 5-0, as they beat the Fighting Illini, 24-13.  Here is how it all happened.

Illinois scored first, when Scheelhaase ran in for a 3 yard score, 7-0 Illinois.

Ohio State would answer back on the next drive with a touchdown pass from Terrelle Pryor to Brandon Saine, an 8 yard score, 7-7 the score.

Illinois would take the lead in the 2nd quarter, with a field goal to make it 10-7. But, with only 45 seconds before the half, Terrelle Pryor connected with Dane Sanzenbacher for an 11 yard score to make it 14-10 at halftime.

There would be no scoring until the 4th quarter, with about 9 minutes to go, as Devin Barclay kicked a 32-yard field goal, 17-10 the score.

Derek Dimke would add 3 for the Fighting Illini with a 30 yard field goal, the score was 17-13.

The Bucks would pull out the dagger with about 2 minutes left, when Boom Herron got the 6 yard touchdown run, 24-13 the score, and that is how she finished.

Every Buckeye was scared when in the 3rd quarter, QB Terrelle Pryor was injured.  Back-up, Joe Bauserman had to come in, but TP would return late in the 3rd quarter, it seems that he was a bit shaken up, that is why all he did was hand-off to Saine or Herron.  Coach, Jim Tressel says that by next week, Terrelle "should be ready to rock-n'-roll.

Ohio State captures the Illibuck Trophy, and will come home and host the Indiana Hoosiers, Saturday at noon.  That game will be televised on either ESPN or ESPN2.
