Roy Halladay Throws No-Hitter, Beats Reds In Game 1

By:  Cooper Ledford

In game one of the NLDS from Philadelphia, the Reds were taking on the Phillies.  This was the Reds first playoff game in 15 years, 1995, that was one year before I was born, so it has been a lifetime and more since they have been to the playoffs.  So, the Reds were looking for a win to start off the 2010 post-season, but Phillies starter, Roy Halladay denied that, as he made history and threw a no hitter.  The Phillies end up winning 4-0, here is how it all happened.

In the 1st inning, Chase Utley hit a sac fly to bring in Victorino, 1-0 the score.

The 2nd inning would be terrible for the Reds, and it could have been a lot better, if Orlando Cabrera made the smart move and went to first to get the out, but he tried to do to much and go to 2nd.  That would allow the pitcher, Roy Halladay to the plate, and he would bring in a run with an RBI single, Ruiz would score and it was 2-0.  Then, next batter, Victorino hit a 2 RBI single, Valdez and Halladay would score, 4-0 the score.

That is all it would take.

The winner is of course, Roy Halladay who went a complete game, no hitter, 1 walk, 8 punch outs...amazing.

Edinson Volquez is the loser who only went 1.2 innings and gave up 4 hits and 4 ER's.

Roy Halladay is the 5th pitcher in MLB history to throw a perfect game AND no hitter in the same season.

The good news for the Reds, this is only the 1st game of the series.
