What do Bengals need to do to win vs. Indy?

By: Cooper Ledford SWO SPORTS FOUNDER AND CEO

Some people have been asking me what the Bengals need to do to beat the Indianapolis Colts. My answer is that they need to have a good defensive line and pressure Payton Manning and the other QB's. By doing this it will be harder for them to make good throws and pick up good yardage. Also the Bengals Corner backs need to be good because of the good WR's on the Colts, such as Athony Gonzalez and Harrison. The offence needs to play good too, and the whole team needs to not turn the ball over as much. If Cincy can do these things they have a shot at a win.

Turnovers play big part in Bengals loss.

By: Cooper Ledford
The Bengals were looking to go over .500 in game 3 of the pre-season August 27th vs. the Rams, but they were unsuccessful as thy lost 24-21. Here is how the scoring took place. In the 1st quarter a Rams punt was returned by Cosby and was 7-0 Cincinnati on top. The Rams would answer back as Gado ran it for a TD t tie it up a 7. Then after a JT O'Sullivan fumble recovered by James Laurinatis set p a 1st a goal fo St. Louis. The Rams would hand it off to Gado once again and he got into the endzone for a TD 14-7 Rams. Then another Cincinnati fumble was recovered and returned for a TD by James Butler 21-7 Rams on top. Then on 1st and goal O'Sullivan handed it off to Brian Leonard for a TD and make it a 7 point game 14-21 Rams. Then a James Butler pick off set up a field goal and make it 24-21 and that would be the final score as the Bengals go to 1-2 and the Rams go to 2-1. Great day to be a Cincinnati sports fan.

By: Cooper Ledford
It is a great day to be a Reds and Bengals fan, that means they both won today, and both only won by 1 point/run. The Reds gave up a run in the 1st then in the 6th Laynce Nix tied it up with a solo home run. Then in the bottom of the 10th the rookie Drew Stubs hit a walk-off solo some run to give the Reds a 2-1 win. Codero gets the win.
As for the Bengals. In the 2nd pre-season game of the season the Bengals played a great game against the New England Patriots. Before I say the score I will tell how the game went. In the 1st drive of the game for New England, the kicker Stephen Gostkowski kicked a field goal to make it 3-0 New England on top. Then in the 2nd quarter O'Sullivan connected to Jerome Simpson to the inzone, but their was offensive pass interference to take away the TD. The very next play O'Sullivan went to the inzone and found Chris Henry for a touchdown to make it 6-6. Since Shayne Graham was injured the Bengals did not have a kicker, so they shocked the fans and used WR Chad Ochocinco to kick the extra point and give Cincinnati a 7-6 lead. Late in the 4th quarter the Patriots had a great drive going inside the red zone until a New England fumble that Marvin White recovered gave the Bengals the ball, and sealed their win as the Bengals have .500 record in the pre-season at 1-1.

O'sullivan, lil' Palmer to battle Pats.

By: Cooper Ledford
Since Carson Palmer sprained his ankle last Saturday vs. the Saints his brother Jordan, and back-up QB J.T. O'Sullivan will be trying to defeat one of the best teams in the NFL. O'Sullivan is coming off of a great game where he had the Bengals only TD pass. And Jordan Palmer is looking for improvement from his last game. Not only will both QB's and the offense have to be good, so will the defense. The Patriots offense is one of the best in the NFL with Tom Brady, Wess Welker, and Randy Moss so Cincinnati's defense will need to play great to even come close to a win in Foxboro. You can catch the game on Cincinnati area local CBS stations at 7:30 pm ET.

Reds go down 2-0 vs. DC

By: Javier Lopez
The Cincinnati Reds lost to DC 2-0, Arron Harang once again pitched well, but had no run support and lost. Both runs were long balls and the Nats even the series at 1. There are 2 more games left in the series.

Bengals look good, but not good enough.

By: Cooper Ledford
The Cincinnati Bengals opened the pre-season vs. New Orleans and lost 17-7. Drew Brees looked good with 1 TD pass to give the Saints a 7-0 lead. Then with 7 seconds remaining in the half Bengals back up QB O'sullivan completed a TD pass to Chris Henry to tie it up a 7. The Saints backup QB looked good also as he had 1 TD, and it was 14-7 Saints. A New Orleans field goal would make it 17-7 and that was the final. Bengals defense looked nice and better than usual forcing 2 turnovers. The Bengals offense did not look as good as the defense as they had 4 turnovers 1 fumble, and 3 interceptions. The most impresive Bengal was Chris Henry with 1 TD and 100 yards. Next game is Thursday as the Bengals head to Foxboro to play New England.

Arroyo and MLB to have a "chat" about his supplements

By Bob Nightengale, USA TODAY
Major League Baseball plans to schedule a meeting with Cincinnati Reds right-hander Bronson Arroyo, vice president Rich Levin said Thursday, to discuss his comments to USA TODAY about taking supplements not approved by MLB.
"We just want to chat with him," Levin said, "just to make him aware of the (MLB-licensed) supplements out there."

ARROYO SPEAKS: Opens door on supplement use
It has yet to be determined whether Rob Manfred, executive vice president/labor and human resources, or a member of MLB's investigative staff will meet with Arroyo, Levin said. MLB does not plan to discipline Arroyo; it wants the opportunity to educate Arroyo about the dangers of taking unapproved supplements, Levin said.
Arroyo, 32, admitted in Thursday's USA TODAY that he takes as many as 16 supplements a day, some that have not been approved by baseball and cleared of contaminants such as steroids.

FIND MORE STORIES IN: Cincinnati Reds Curt Schilling
"I have a lot of guys in (the locker room) who think I'm out of (my) mind because I'm taking a lot of things not on the (MLB-approved) list," Arroyo said. "I take 10 to 12 different things a day, and on the days I pitch, there's four more things. There's a caffeine drink I take from a company that (former teammate) Curt Schilling introduced me to in '05. I take some Korean ginseng and a few other proteins out there that are not certified. But I haven't failed any tests, so I figured I'm good."
He also described taking androstenedione and amphetamines before they were banned by baseball in 2004 and 2006, respectively.
Arroyo was scheduled to start for the Reds at home vs. Washington on Thursday night.

Gomes helps Arroyo with shut-out.

By: Cooper Ledford
Johnny Gomes hit 3 home runs against the Nationals today becoming the 24th Red to hit 3 home runs. If that is not enough Bronson Arroyo gave up 2 hits and 0 ER in a complete game. The Reds win 7-0. In the bottom of the 2nd after a Laynce Nix double, Gomes hit his 1st home run 2-0 Reds, that was all Arroyo would need, but Gomes, Phillips, and Hanigan got a total of 5 more. In that same inning Ryan Hanigan hit a solo home run 3-0 Reds on top. Then in the 5th Nix and Gomes repeated what they did in the 2nd inning, a Nix double, and a Gomes home rin 5-0 Reds. Then Gomes hit another home run in the 6th 6-0 Cincinnati on top. Then with Votto on 1st Phillips hit a double and Votto scored 7-0 Reds and that was the final. Arroyo breezed through the Nationals lineup inning after inning. He pitched his third complete game of the season to earn his 11th win of the season.

Bengals start pre-season vs. Saints

Written by Cooper Ledford

The Cincinnati Bengals will start the pre-season in the Big Easy vs. the Saints. Carson Palmer will make his first start since early last season after getting injured. It is said that the multiple time suspended WR Chris Henry will play in tomorrows game. Henry has been working hard in training camp and Bengals.com reports that he has been playing good football. We will see if the new running back Cedric Benson has improved at all since last season. A big factor for the Bengals will be their defense, my reasoning is because of Saints QB Brew Brees. Brees is one of the best QB’s in the entire NFL. Also the Saints are a good running team with Deuce Mcallister as their Halfback. This should be a good game, I say the Bengals win it 24-10.

Reds win, but not with ease.

By: Cooper Ledford SWO SPORTS FOUNDER AND CEO
The Cincinnati Reds took on the St. Louis Cardinals in game 2 and won 5-4, however had a lot of chances to lose. In the top of the 1st Laynce Nix doubles to score Gonzalez and Phillips to make it 2-0 Reds on top. The Reds were not done in that inning, Johnny Gomes singles to score Phillips so it was 3-0 Reds on top. In the top of the 2nd Joey Votto hit an RBI single to score Dickerson to give the Reds a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd the Cardinals got a run off of Ryan Ludwick's bat to score Pujols and make it 4-1 Cincinnati Reds still on top. Nothing going on until the top of inning number 8 when Alex Gonzalez hit a single to score Adam Rosales to make it 5-1 Reds on top. In the bottom of the 8th a man that was 0-3, could not stay hitless for long, I am talking about Alber Pujols, he hit a solo home run to make it close 5-2 Reds still on top. The Red Birds were not done in that inning, Yadier Molina hit a 2 base hit to score DeRosa and make it a 2 run game 5-3. In the bottom of the 9th with the Red Birds down by 2, a ground ball was hit to Phillips and no one was there to cover 1st base and that would get a run in to make it a 1 run game 5-4. Luckily Francisco Cordero would get in and out of trouble and the Reds win. Lehr wins and Cordero gets a save.

The Cards were not done in that inning, Brendan Ryan hit a double to score Green to and make it 4-1 and that would be the final. The losing pitcher is Wells and the winning pitcher is Lohse.

Just recently the NCAA football preseason rankings came out putting Ohio State at #6, now I was fine with it until i saw who was #5 and then i got infuriated, LSU, a nobody team last year ahead of are Buckeyes, and Ohio State was better in 2009 than the LSU Tigers. Putting us at #6 is not as good of a ranking we are used to, we might not have our outstanding defence players but we have Terrelle Pryor the greatest QB to ever where the jersey (in my opinion) he alone could make the LSU D look poor. Now I hope we play LSU again this year at the Fiesta or Rose bowl to show those Morons at the BCS off. If my predictions are right LSU will probably be 11-1 or 10-2. Ohio State will be if my predictions are right 11-1 so a rematch is possible. Thank you and Go Bucks!

Reds Trade Reliever David Weathers to Brewers

By: Jeremy Mays
The Cincinnati Reds traded Relief Pitcher David Weathers to the division rival Milwaukee Brewers for a player to be named later. The Brewers added Weathers to help their chances for the post season. The Reds have until August 15h to decide what kind of player they will trade for. David played with the Brewers from 1998-2001 and is familiar with people in the organization; including former Reds teammate Todd Coffey. If Weathers pitches the way Coffey has since being traded from the Reds to Milwaukee, then Weathers is bound to have success. There is also a rumor that the Brewers may be looking to move J.J. Hardy who will be a free agent after next year in 2011 because they have a top prospect shortstop Alcides Escobar who will be ready to make his MLB Debut soon. The rumor is that the Reds may trade Alex Gonzalez who is a potential free agent after this season for Hardy this year. That would solve the Reds need at shortstop. The Brewers will have Gonzalez for the rest of the season and then be ready to call up Alcides Escobar from the minor leagues for next year if they decline the 2010 option in Alex Gonzalez's contract.

Bengals Tight End Reggie Kelly not to play in 2009.

By: Cooper Ledford SWO Sports Founder and CEO

In Georgetown KY in Bengals training camp TE Reggie Kelly injured his Achilles heel and will miss all of the 2009 and season. Now Bengals Tight End coach Jon Hayes will have to make a tough decision on who to pick to replace Kelly, Ben Utecht or Chase Coffman. Bengals fans want Ben Utecht because he is a veteran and has more experience. However, Hayes does have a long time relationship with Chase Coffman. When Chase was a little boy in Kansas Hayes was living there as well, they knew each other and Chase's fater was good friends with Hayes. Jon Hayes says that when Chase was about 4 or 5 years old he would do a lot of things to prove he was tough. Hayes says "Trust me, He is tough enough (to play TE for the Bengals)" Head Coach Marvin Lewis says "They have to replace not only Reggie's snaps, but his influence on what we do." It will be intersting to see who will be playing TE for the Cincinnati Bengals in the upcoming season.
