Reds Trade Reliever David Weathers to Brewers

By: Jeremy Mays
The Cincinnati Reds traded Relief Pitcher David Weathers to the division rival Milwaukee Brewers for a player to be named later. The Brewers added Weathers to help their chances for the post season. The Reds have until August 15h to decide what kind of player they will trade for. David played with the Brewers from 1998-2001 and is familiar with people in the organization; including former Reds teammate Todd Coffey. If Weathers pitches the way Coffey has since being traded from the Reds to Milwaukee, then Weathers is bound to have success. There is also a rumor that the Brewers may be looking to move J.J. Hardy who will be a free agent after next year in 2011 because they have a top prospect shortstop Alcides Escobar who will be ready to make his MLB Debut soon. The rumor is that the Reds may trade Alex Gonzalez who is a potential free agent after this season for Hardy this year. That would solve the Reds need at shortstop. The Brewers will have Gonzalez for the rest of the season and then be ready to call up Alcides Escobar from the minor leagues for next year if they decline the 2010 option in Alex Gonzalez's contract.
