Xavier Beats IPFW in OT

By:  Cooper Ledford

The Xavier Musketeers (1-0) were hosting the IPFW Mastodons.  Real quick, for those of you that don't know, or maybe not even care, what IPFW stands for, according to a Google search, preformed by yours truly, it stands for Indian-Purdue University Fort Wayne.  IPFW was also 1-0.  Xavier was coming off of a nail-biting win over Western Michigan.  XU was heavily favored, but it was much closer than anyone expected, in-fact, it took an extra 5 minutes for the Muskies to get the W.  Xavier picks up the win 76-66 in OT.

This game was scary, as XU got the ball back with just under 5 seconds to go, and was tied.  It was then taken away by IPFW, there was a foul with only 2.5 seconds to go, and IPFW had the ball.  Fortunately for the Muskies, the shot was missed, barley though, and the game went into OT, where Xavier did well.  The Team From Cincinnati dominated in overtime, and was able to pick up the win.

Tu Holloway once again lead the Muskies in points, as he had 24, along with 9 boards, 4 assists, and 2 steals.  He was great in the clutch.  "There aren't many players that I've coached that love that moment more than Tu," coach Chris Mack said. "I just wish we werent in that moment so many times."

Besides Tu Holloway being great, a man who is expected to do very well this year, returned to the action after missing the first game of the season.  That man would be Jamel McLean.  McLean had an injury near his eye, and with the protection of goggles, he was able to lead the team in rebounds, with 10, steals, with 3, and blocks, with 3.

Hey, Jeff Robinson is worth noting as well, as he had a career night.  He put up 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Xavier is now 2-0, and will go to the U.S. Virgin Islands, as they will take on Iowa in the Paradise Jam.  Game time is at 8:30 PM ET, no TV, but you can listen to the game on 700 WLW.  Don't have a radio?  Then you are screwed bro.  But, you can get a recap of the game, right here, on SWO Sports.
