The Cincinnati Reds had a magic number of 1, they could clinch with a victory or a Cardinals loss to Pittsburgh. The only way the Reds could get a win is if they could do well against Houston's ace, Wandy Rodriguez. The Reds did not do well against him, but they did just enough to come away with a 3-2 victory over Houston, in dramatic fashion, which was not surprising that the Reds clinched in the way they did, here is how it all happened.
In the 1st inning, after 2 walks, then a double play, Stubbs was at 3rd with 2 outs and Scott Rolen at the plate. Scotty Rolen hit an RBI single, then would reach second thanks to a throwing error on 3rd baseman, Chris Johnson. 1-0 Reds on top.
The Astros would answer back in the 2nd, Jason Castro hit an RBI single to bring in Wallace, game tied at 1. Then, Wandy Rodriguez hit a sac/safety/suicide squeeze to plate Sanchez, 2-1 Astros.
Cincinnati had a great opportunity to blow the game open, with the bases loaded an no outs in the 6th. Jonny Gomes popped-up to the infield for the 1st out, but the next batter, Brandon Phillips hit an infield single to bring across Cabrera, 2-2 the score, next batter, Jay Bruce, grounded into a double play to end the inning.
In the bottom of the 8th, Drew Stubbs was at the plate with 2 outs, he crushed one to left field, just missing a home run by about a foot, but he would be left stranded at 2nd.
In the top of the 9th, the pitcher was Aroldis Chapman, he had a 1-2-3 inning, keeping the game tied at 2.
Jay Bruce was trying to make up for the double play that he grounded into in the 6th. He lead off the 9th inning. Guess what? VERY FIRST PITCH HE SEES, HE HITS HIGH, HE HITS IT WELL, HE HITS A...WALK-OFF HOME RUN TO GIVE THE REDS THEIR 1ST DIVISION TITLE IN 15 YEARS! 3-2 Reds win!
Congratulations to the Cincinnati Reds on clinching the National League Central Division.
Lets not forget about the pitching in this game, Edinson Volquez did great, 6 innings of 7 hit, 2 run baseball, but Aroldis Chapman will get the win.
See if the Reds can clinch the #2 seed in the NL. Watch the game on Wednesday at 7:10 PM ET on FS Ohio.

Reds Can Clinch Tonight
By: Cooper Ledford
The 1st Place Cincinnati Reds can clinch the NL Central tonight with a win, or a Cardinals loss. The Reds are 6 games up on the Cardinals, but that is not the number Reds fans are talking about anymore. The number we are talking about is the magic one, which sits at 1, meaning if the Reds beat Wandy Rodriguez and the Astros tonight, Cincinnati wins the NL Central OR if the St. Louis Cardinals lose to Pittsburgh, the Reds will clinch. Hopefully the Reds clinch via win tonight, so we can dogpile and celebrate with the champagne shower. Watch the game on Fox Sports Ohio at 7:10 PM ET and see if Edinson Volquez and the Cincinnati Reds can capture their first ever National League Central Division Title.

Sooners Just Hold off UC
AP
CINCINNATI (AP) - Landry Jones ran an Oklahoma offense, throwing for 370 yards and two touchdowns, and the eighth-ranked Sooners withstood a late Bearcats rally Saturday for a 31-29 win that kept them unbeaten.
Oklahoma (4-0) did a little of everything behind its sophomore quarterback, who completed a career-high 36 passes in 51 attempts with one interception. Ryan Broyles had his seventh straight 100-yard receiving game, looking good on the NFL field where favorite Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco - who wears the same No. 85 - struts his stuff.
Jones' only interception helped Cincinnati (1-3) make a late charge. Zach Collaros followed with a 36-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Woods that cut it to 24-22 with 9:45 left.
Woods then fumbled a punt at Cincinnati's 7, setting up Jones' clinching touchdown pass.
Woods also fumbled at the 5-yard line at the end of a long run-and-catch in the first half, part of a self-destructive showing by the two-time defending Big East champions. Cincinnati is off to its worst start in four years.
Collaros led a touchdown drive in the closing minutes against a defense willing to trade yards for time, throwing his third touchdown pass with 58 seconds left. Broyles recovered the onside kick to seal it. Collaros finished 23 of 38 for 305 yards. He also threw an interception in the end zone - his first this season - and fumbled.
Oklahoma overcame five personal fouls and a missed field goal while improving to 4-0 for the first time in two years. The Sooners next play Texas on Oct. 2.
Oklahoma hit the road for the first time this season, trying to shake out of its troubles away from home. The Sooners have been nearly invincible in Norman, winning 33 in a row, but had been ordinary when out of town, dropping five of their last seven.
Jones broke the streak with an extraordinary performance.
He completed 13 consecutive passes on two early touchdown drives, getting Oklahoma's offense moving in overdrive. Twice, the Bearcats failed to get lined up before Jones called for the snap. His 5-yard touchdown pass to Broyles - uncovered in the back of the end zone - made it 14-3.
Looked awfully familiar to Cincinnati.
Broyles got his stellar career started against the Bearcats. He made his collegiate debut during a 52-26 win over Cincinnati in Oklahoma in 2008, setting a school freshman record with 141 yards on seven catches.
The Sooners moved the ball consistently but self-destructed in the first half as well. Jimmy Stevens missed a field goal, and uncovered receiver Cameron Kenney had a pass slip through his hands in the end zone, forcing the Sooners to settle for a field goal.
Oklahoma's defense had a lot of good moments.
Cincinnati drove to a first-and-goal at the 2 on its opening drive, but had to settle for a field goal, starting some grumbling in the less-than-capacity crowd of 58,253 at Paul Brown Stadium.
Safety Jonathan Nelson had two huge plays in the opening half. He ran down Woods at the end of a 73-yard catch-and-run, punching the ball loose at the 5-yard line. It rolled into the end zone and the Sooners recovered.
Nelson also intercepted a pass in the end zone late in the first half, the first time that Collaros was picked off this season. The two heady plays helped the Sooners take a 17-9 lead into halftime.
Collaros got the offense moving better than it had all season. Woods had a career-high 171 yards on seven catches, and Isaiah Pead ran for 169 yards.
Buckeyes Destroy EMU
By: Cooper Ledford
The #2 Ohio State Buckeyes were hosting Eastern Michigan, Saturday. EMU had lost 15 strait, and the Buckeyes were trying to make it 16 strait, and that they did. This was not even a game, it was over at the end of the 1st quarter. But, since there are a lot of Buckeye fans that may not have seen this game, weather they were busy or what, I will make a recap with ALL of the scoring plays, here it is, the recap of the Buckeyes 73-20 win.
In the 1st quarter, Terrelle Pryor ran for a 53 yard touchdown, 7-0 OSU on top. Then, about 3 minutes later, Pryor connected with Dane Sanzenbacher in the endzone from 31 yards out, 14-0 the score. Ohio State would then get a 42 yard field goal by Devin Barclay to make the score 17-0. Then, to finish off the scoring of the 1st quarter, Dan Herron rushed for a 7 yard score, 24-0 the score.
The Eagles would then get on the board in the 2nd quarter, when Priest ran it in from 2 yards out, 24-7 the score.
Ohio State would answer back with a 9 yard touchdown pass from Pryor to Sanzenbacher, 31-7 the score. Then, 3 minutes later, it would be the same combination, with the same result, a touchdown pass from Terrelle Pryor to Dane Sanzenbacher, a 7 yard score, 38-7 the score.
EMU would get a touchdown with about 1 minute left in the half, when Gillett found Kinsman Thomas for a 13 yard TD pass, that made it 38-14 at the half.
The Men Of The Scarlet And Gray would answer back with a touchdown pass from Terrelle Pryor to, who else, Dane Sanzenbacher, a touchdown, Pryor and Sanzy's 4th of the game, 45-14 the score.
Eastern Michigan would not give up though, as Gillett connected with Scott for a 32 yard touchdown pass, but the PAT was blocked, the score was 45-20.
Jim Tressel would then call a wild play, as the running back, Jordan Hall received the toss from Pryor, then Hall threw to Pryor for a touchdown. Awesome! Two high school team mates connect for a 20 yard pass, 52-20 the score going into the 4th quarter.
The 4th quarter was dominated by OSU. The 2nd ranked team would start the scoring with a 17 yard touchdown pass from Joe Bauserman to Jordan Hall, 59-20 the score. Then, Jaamal Berry ran for a 67yard touchdown run, a longin', 66-20 the score. Then, the 3rd-string quarterback, Kenny Guiton ran for a 15 yard touchdown, that would make it 73-20, and that is how the blowout finished.
Terrelle Pryor did good, as he went 20/26 with 224 yards, off of 4 touchdown passes, all to Dane Sanzenbacher, and no picks. Pryor also rushed for 104 yards, which lead the team. Sanzenbacher is the player of the game on my opinion, as I have said twice, 4 touchdowns, he also had 9 receptions and 108 yards.
So, Ohio State is 4-0, and has a blowout win in 3 of the 4 games, and have only beaten teams that wear Green. Next week, there will be no win versus a green team, as they will visit the Fighting Illini of Illinois for the Battle for the Illibuck trophy. That game will be Saturday, at noon on the Big Ten Network. Be sure to watch Redsfancoop1's Buckeye Blitz with highlights and a recap, which will be uploaded to YouTube by Monday.

Reds Get Win via 3 Home Runs
The Cincinnati Reds could capture the NL Central Title with a sweep of the Brewers, in addition with the Cardinals getting swept. The Reds won in game one versus the Milwaukee Brewers, as Homer Bailey looked great, despite not getting a win for it, and also, the Reds sluggers looked great. Cincinnati wins 5-2, here is how it all happened.
The Brew Crew would cut the lead in half in the 3rd when Ryan Braun grounded out to bring in the speedy Weeks from 3rd, 2-1 the score. Milwaukee would tie it up in the 5th, when Ryan Braun hit an RBI double, his 41st two-bagger of the year, Weeks would score, 2-2 the score.
The game would remain tied until the visitor's 8th. With a man on and one out, the MVP Candidate, Joey Votto hit a 2-run jack to left, his 35th of the season, 4-2 Redlegs on top. Before Votto's at-bat, him and Scott Rolen were arguing about who was taller, the only way they could find out is if they went back-to-back, and that they did. Scott Rolen hit a solo home run, his 20th long-ball of the year, and the Reds had a 5-2 lead, and that would be the final.
Both Homer Bailey, who is looking to prove to Dusty Baker that he should make the post-season rotation, and Chris Capuano, whose team cannot make the playoffs this year, did very well. Both are left with no-decisions.
St. Louis lost in a make-up game to Florida, 4-0, so the Reds are back to being 7 games up. The 'legs are sporting a record of 85-66, and improve their magic number to 6.

Bengals Beat Ravens For 1st Win of Season.
By: Cooper Ledford
After a tough loss in New England, the Bengals were able to rebound and beat the Baltimore Ravens. According to Sports Nation, only 19% of Americans that voted, said the Bengals would beat the Ravens. Those 19% are smart.
Mike Nugent kicked 5 field goals, giving the Bengals a 15-10 win.
Next, the Bengals take on the Panthers, that is Sunday at 1:00 PM ET and on CBS.

Reds Crush Astros
By: Cooper Ledford
The Reds were trying to even the series at a game apiece with the Astros, to do that, Bronson Arroyo would have to pitch a good game, as he was seeking win number 16, which would be a career high for the high-kicking righty. Bronson was able to get that win, as the Redlegs dominated the Houston Astros, 11-1. Here is how it all happened.
Houston got on the board first, in the 2nd, when Carlos Lee hit his 23rd homer of the year, 1-0 the score.
The Reds would tie it up in the 3rd when Orlando Cabrera hit an RBI single to plate Arroyo. Then, the Reds would take the lead 2 batters later, when Scott Rolen hit an RBI single to bring in Cabrera, 2-1 the score. Then, in the top of the 4th, Jim Edmonds hit a solo shot to left, his 10th of the season, 3-1 the score.
Edmonds would not be the only man on the team that went deep, Jay Bruce did in the 5th as he hit a 2-run home run, his 21st long ball of the year, 5-1. The Reds would get 2 more runs in that 5th inning. Ryan Hanigan hit an RBI single to score Edmonds, and Arroyo hit a sac fly to plate Stubbs. 7-1 the score.
Speaking of Drew Stubbs, in the 7th inning, guess what he did? He done hit a long en' over dat fence. His 19th of the year and the score was 8-1. In the 9th, the Reds got some more insurance, as Hanigan hit an RBI double to bring Bruce home, 9-1. Then, Yonder Alonso hit a 2 RBI single, 11-1 the score, and that is how it ended.
Bronson Arroyo is the winner as he went 6 innings, gave up 4 hits, 1 run, walked one, and fanned 5. Congratulations to Bronson on getting a career high 16th win!
Also, the Cardinals lost, so the Reds are back to 7 games up, and the magic number is now at 8.
Tomorrow the Reds will play in the rubber game, game time is set for 2:05 PM ET and will be televised on FS Ohio. Watch as Travis Wood (5-3, 3.46 ERA) and the Reds will take on Brett Myers (12-7, 2.85 ERA) and the 'Stros.

Bobcats Choke on Buckeyes
By: Cooper Ledford
Jim Tressel's team was hosting the Ohio Bobcats, which the #2 Buckeyes have never lost to. Their most recent win over OU was in 2008 in a close game. This game was not close at all, as Ohio State beats Ohio 43-7. Terrelle Pryor passed for 235 yards off of 22 completions, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Pryor has now passed for 200+ yards in his last 4 games (vs. Oregon in Rose Bowl, vs. Marshall, vs. Miami, and now vs. Ohio). Here is how it all happened.
On the 1st drive of the game for Ohio, Bates threw an interception to Moeller, that was the 2nd play of the game, and that was pretty much it, it was already over. Ohio State got a field goal on that drive, a 32 yard kick by Barclay, 3-0 the score. Then, still in the 1st quarter, Terrelle Pryor connected with Brandon Saine for a 9 yard touchdown pass, 10-0 the score with 05:53 to go. Then, about 2 minutes later, Pryor ran for a 13 yard score, 17-0 the score at the end of the 1st quarter.
The 2nd quarter, like the 1st, was dominated by the team from Central Ohio. Barclay started the 2nd quarter scoring with a 33 yard field goal, 20-0 the score. Then, Pryor would resume the touchdown parade, as he found Jake Stoneburner for a 5 yard touchdown pass. That was Stoneburner's first collegiate touchdown, and that was with 10:25 to go in the 2nd, 27-0 OSU on top. Then, 2 minutes later, Dan "Boom" Herron rushed for a 2 yard score, 34-0 the score going into the half.
In the 3rd quarter, Ohio State forced a safety as Ohio's Vince Davidson was tackled in the endzone by Ohio State's Cameron Heyward, so 2 for the Bucks, 36-0 the score. Then with under a minute to go in the 3rd, Boom got his 2nd touchdown of the game, this one for just 1 yard, 43-0 the score.
The Bobcats would make this a more respectable game in the 4th, when Boo Jackson found McCrae in the endzone, 43-7 the score, and that is how she finished. Also, congratulations to Terrelle Pryor on setting a school record with 16 strait completions.
So, DeVier Posey and the Buckeyes beat his older brother Julian, and improve to 3-0 on the season. OU is now 1-2.
Be sure to catch the best highlights of every Buckeye game on Redsfancoop1's Buckeye Blitz on YouTube. It should be uploaded by tomorrow.
Next, the Silver Bullets will welcome Eastern Michigan to the Horseshoe, that game will be Saturday at 3:30 PM ET, and will be televised on ABC.

Reds Drop 1st Game In Houston
By: Cooper Ledford
The 1st place Cincinnati Reds were in Texas taking on the 3rd place Astros. The Reds were trying to lower their magic number, which was at 10. But, instead Houston beat the Reds 5-3 despite Johnny Cueto pitching a solid game. Here is how it all happened.
The 'Stros got on the board first, in the 1st inning when Chris Johnson (not the running back for the Titans) hit a sac fly to bring in Sanchez, 1-0 Astros on top. Make it 2-0 after a 2nd inning RBI single from Michael Bourn, that would plate the pitcher, Wandy Rodriguez.
The Reds had the bases loaded with 1 out in the 3rd, but got no runs. That is something the Reds MUST improve on, capitalizing on opportunities. If and when they make the playoffs, the Reds will do squat if they cannot bring runners in when they have an opportunity.
But, the Reds did take advantage of an opportunity in the 6th. Rodriguez had a no-no going, until a double by Votto, then a walk to Rolen, and that would bring up Jonny Gomes with no outs, he homered to left, 17th long ball of the year, and the Reds had a 3-2 lead. But, it would not last long at all.
In the home half of the 6th, Carlos Lee hit his 22nd touch-'em-all hit, and the game was tied at 3. Houston would then take the lead in the 7th when Sanchez hit a 2 RBI single off of Chapman, 5-3 the score, and the final score. The Reds are now 83-64, the Cardinals won, so they are 6 games up, the Reds are, and the magic number remains at 10.
Watch tomorrow as the Reds will try and even the series, as Bronson Arroyo (15-10, 4.05 ERA) and the Redlegs will battle Nelson Figueroa (3-1, 3.27 ERA) and the Astros. Game time is set for 7:05 PM ET and will be televised on Fox Sports Ohio.

Cincy Slaughtered by NC State
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Russell Wilson threw for 333 yards and three touchdowns and North Carolina State beat Cincinnati 30-19 on Thursday night to improve to 3-0 for the first time in eight years.
Jay Smith and Curtis Underwood Jr. had first-half touchdown catches, and Mustafa Greene had a 31-yard scoring run that gave N.C. State a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. The Wolfpack led the entire way behind Wilson and a defense that pressured Zach Collaros much of the night.
Cincinnati (1-2) didn't run a play inside the N.C. State 32 until the final minutes, but the Wolfpack had a big lead by that point. Collaros connected withD.J. Woods twice for touchdowns, the first from 68 yards late in the first half.
N.C. State is off to its best start since winning its first nine games behind eventual NFL first-round draft pick Philip Rivers at quarterback in 2002.
Wilson bounced back from a frustrating performance last weekend at Central Florida, where he completed just 10 of 30 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.
At the time, it seemed Wilson was having some of the struggles coach Tom O'Brien predicted after he missed spring drills while concentrating on playing baseball for the Wolfpack, followed by spending the summer playing minor league baseball in the Colorado Rockies' organization. O'Brien had said it would take time for Wilson to find his game again, though on Thursday night he played with the steady presence that made him an All-Atlantic Coast Conference quarterback as a freshman two seasons ago.
He completed 26 of 40 passes, including an 8-yard touchdown strike to Taylor Gentry with about 7 1/2 minutes left to make it 30-7.
At least Wilson and his teammates eased O'Brien's mind about playing a nationally televised game with only four days of rest. Not to mention give the much-criticized ACC--which has stumbled in its early nonconference matchups--a needed win against a team picked to tie for second in the Big East.
While Wilson had the offense going, N.C. State's defense did its part, too. The Wolfpack finished with five sacks, hurried Collaros four times and notched a fourth-and-1 stop early in the fourth quarter. The only blemish was allowing Cincinnati to score a pair of meaningless touchdowns in the final 6 1/2 minutes.
N.C. State also blocked a punt to set up Gentry's touchdown catch.9.12.2010

Kentucky Beats WKU 63-28
Randall Cobb scored just about every way possible in tonight's games. He scored 3 TDs and now ranks 2nd all time in TDs scored in UK history. Cobb caught one TD, threw for another and returned a punt 50 yards to the end zone. Joker Phillips becomes the 2nd coach in UK history to start out 2-0 in their first two games at Kentucky. The other was none other but the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant. Votto Delivers 10th Inning Walk-off Home Run
By: Cooper Ledford
Edinson Volquez was on the hill for Cincinnati, as he was replacing Aaron Harang in the starting rotation. Edinson pitched a great game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but his bullpen (Nick Masset) did not let him get the win. Joey Votto was the star of the night, as he hit what I said in the title, giving the Reds a 5-4 in in 10 innings in George Grande's return to the booth on FS Ohio. Here is how it all happened.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Drew Stubbs hit a sac fly to bring in Scott Rolen, 1-0 Redlegs on top. Then, in the 7th inning, Ramon Hernandez would hit a sac fly to bring in Rolen, 2-0 Reds. Same inning, Miguel Cairo, who started in right field, hit a sac fly to bring in Gomes. So 3 sac flies in this game.
The Pirates would get on the board in the 8th, when Bowker hit an RBI double, that would plate Cedeno, 3-1 the score. Then, same inning, Jose Tabata hit an RBI single, Bowker would score, and just like that it was a 1-run-ballgame. Aroldis Chapman would then come in, and he gave up an un-earned jun when Neil Walker hit an RBI single to bring in McCutchen and Tabata, and the Buccos had a 4-3 lead.
In the 9th inning, with Drew Stubbs on 1st, Chris Heisey was the batter, he hit a double down the left field line, just fair, Stubbs scored, and the game was tied at 4.
In the 10th inning, the Pirates went in order, and then it was the Reds turn to bat. Joey Votto lead off the inning, 2-1 was the count. He hit it far. He hit it high. He hit it GOOONNNNEEEEE! Reds win in 10 innings. Second strait walk-off win, and second strait extra inning win. This was the first walk-off hit for Joseph Daniel Votto in his big league career.
Edinson Volquez did great, going 7 innings, giving up 1 hit, walking 1 and had 10 strikeouts, amazing performance.
The Cardinals lost to the Braves today, so the Reds take advantage and are 7 games up on the Cardinals, their record is 81-61. This means that the Reds have a guaranteed winning record does that sound good or what?
Tomorrow, the Reds will look for the sweep, game time is set for 1:10 PM ET and will be televised on FS Ohio.
This game may be important to the playoffs, but compared to other things, it is nothing. On this date, 9/11/01, we will never forget what happened. Let's always remember what happened.

Hurricane With Limited Damage in Columbus
By: Cooper Ledford
The last time the Ohio State Buckeyes and Miami (FL) Hurricanes met was in the 2002 National Championship Game, where the Buckeyes captured the Title. Miami was looking for revenge, 8 years later. The 12th-ranked 'Canes played good, but not as good as the 2nd-ranked Buckeyes. Ohio State was able to get the win, 36-24. A big reason Ohio State won was the fact that Jacory Harris threw 4 interceptions, and Barclay's 5 field goals. Here is how all the scoring took place.
The Men Of The Scarlet And Gray scored first, after a Jacory Harris interception to Williams, as Barclay nailed a 24 yard field goal, that made it 3-0, but that lead would be demolished.
On the kickoff, Lamar Miller returned the kick for an 88 yard touchdown, Miami had a 7-3 lead. 10-3 would be the score after Bosher kicked a 51 yard field goal, so Miami was looking good.
But, Ohio State was able to answer back after a 2 play drive. Pryor connected with Posey for a 62 yard gain, then was able to find Brandon Saine for an 18 yard touchdown pass, that made it 10-10. Then, still in the 2nd quarter, Devin Barclay kicked a 41 yard field gaol, that made it 13-10 and the Buckeyes had their lead back.
After Harris threw his 2nd interception, Ohio State was able to score off of a 4 yard touchdown run by Boom Herron, the score was 20-10 with OSU on top.
The Hurricanes would then get a touchdown after Travis Benjamin returned a 79 yard punt for the score, 17-20.
Ohio State would answer back with two field goals, the score was 26-17 at the half. So, the 1st half was owned by Ohio State, the 2nd half did not have a whole lot of action, but it had enough.
In the 3rd quarter, the Silver Bullets would score in the 3rd quarter twice. The first score was off of an interception by CAMERON HEYWARD, it was an 80 yard return, setting up a 13 yard rushing touchdown by Terrelle Pryor, 33-17 the score. Make it 36-17 after Devin Barclay kicked another field goal, his school-tying-record, 5th of the game.
There would be just one more score of the game, that was a Miami touchdown in the 4th, as Harris connected with Ford with the 9 yard score, 36-24 the score, and that was how she finished.
Pryor was 12/27 with 1 touchdown, and no interceptions off of 233 yards.
Ohio State is now 2-0 and will play next Saturday at home versus Ohio. Game time is set for Noon ET, and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

UC Tops ISU For 1st Win of Season
AP
CINCINNATI -- Zach Collaros threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and Cincinnati's wobbly offense finally found its legs in the second half Saturday, pulling away to a 40-7 victory over Indiana State.
The Bearcats (1-1) heard boos at halftime after struggling to a 12-7 lead, their spread offense going nowhere for a second straight game. Collaros directed Cincinnati to touchdowns on all four of its drives in the third quarter.
The two-time defending Big East champions improved to 13-0 at home over the last three seasons, two shy of the school record for consecutive home wins.
Cincinnati's spread offense, expected to score a lot of points in coach Butch Jones' first season after replacing Brian Kelly, evaporated during a 28-14 loss at Fresno State last week. Collaros was sacked eight times in that game, prompting Jones to change his starting left guard.
They acknowledged they needed to get some confidence and get it right against Indiana State (1-1), which is 3-55 over the last six seasons. Cincinnati's next two games are at North Carolina State, then against Oklahoma at Paul Brown Stadium.
In the second half, it finally came together.
Collaros finished 11 of 17 for 130 yards. He also scrambled for 32 yards as Cincinnati's running game got on track. Sophomore Darrin Williams started in place of Isaiah Pead, out with a sore knee, and ran for 117 yards. John Goebelhad two short touchdown runs in the third quarter.
Indiana State was coming off a 57-7 win over St. Joseph's of Indiana -- its first season-opening victory in 14 years. The Sycamores haven't won back-to-back games since 2004, and were hoping to stay close until the fourth quarter and have a chance at the upset.
At halftime, they were living the dream.
Cincinnati lost only two fumbles last season, the fewest in the country. Receiver D.J. Woods lost two in the first half on Saturday, including one after a catch that set up Indiana State's touchdown. Ronnie Fouch's 18-yard pass to tight end Alex Jones cut it to 12-7 late in the second quarter.
Not at all what the Bearcats wanted.
Collaros had more time to throw but still struggled to complete anything more than a short pass in the first half, when he went 8 of 13 for 70 yards with one sack.
There were a few boos as the Bearcats headed for the locker room at halftime up 12-7. They'd managed only 150 yards, and two of their points came on a safety.
It was Cincinnati's first game without receiver Vidal Hazelton, who tore up his left knee at Fresno State. Hazelton was one of Cincinnati's best downfield threats, expected to replace the departed Mardy Gilyard as a playmaker.
Something was missing.
Collaros put a spark in the offense by doing a lot of it himself. He scrambled for three straight first downs, then hit Armon Binns down the left sideline for a 29-yard touchdown that made it 26-7. The Sycamores helped Cincinnati pull away, fumbling at their own 10-yard line to set up another score.

Bearcats Fall In Opener
By: Cooper Ledford
The Cincinnati Bearcats went 12-0 in the regular season last year, and they were trying to start another perfect season. If they were to do that, they would have to beat Fresno State. UC beat FSU last year, and looked like they would again this year, as they lead 14-0 early on, but the Bulldogs scored 28 unanswered points, as they beat Cincinnati, 28-14. Here is how it all happened.
With 02:38 to go in the 1st quarter, Zach Collaros found DJ Woods in the endzone for a 23 yard touchdown pass, that made it 7-0 with the 'Cats on top. Then, in the 2nd quarter, Collaros ran for a touchdown, a 5 yard score, 14-0 UC on top.
The Bulldogs would get on the board when Robbie Rouse caught a 20 yard touchdown pass from Colburn, 14-7 the score. Then, 16 seconds left before halftime, Colburn connected with Hamler for a 16 yard touchdown pass, and we were tied at 14 at the half.
In the 2nd half, it was all Fresno State. FSU scored twice, once in the 3rd quarter, and once in the 4th. Both scores were touchdown passes. The one in the 3rd was Colburn finding Wylie for a 28 yard score, the 4th quarter score was Colburn finding Evans for a 59 yard touchdown pass.
Collaros did good, as he went 24/42, had 1 passing TD and 1 rushing TD off of 219 yards. But, his big problem was how he did under pressure. He was sacked way too many times, and he fumbled quite a bit.
Next, Cincy will look to get back on track as they will host Indiana State. Game time is set for noon ET on Saturday. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Ohio.

Wildcats Top Cardinals
By: Cooper Ledford
The Kentucky Wildcats were in Louisville, taking on there rivals, the Cardinals, in the first game of the season. UK was looking to start off the season in a positive way, and that they did. Kentucky ends up winning 23-16. A big part of the 'Cats success was Hartline's 217 passing yards, and Locke 2 touchdowns. Here is how all of it happened.
UK scored first, as Derrick Locke ran for a 32 yard score, but the extra point was failed, 6-0 the score. That was just about 40 seconds into the game. The Wildcats would score again with 52 seconds left in the first quarter, as Locke ran it in from a yard out, that made it 13-0.
Louisville would get on the board in the 2nd quarter, with 14:52 to go, when Chris Philpott nailed a 44 yard field goal. 13-3 the score.
