Edinson Volquez was on the hill for Cincinnati, as he was replacing Aaron Harang in the starting rotation. Edinson pitched a great game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but his bullpen (Nick Masset) did not let him get the win. Joey Votto was the star of the night, as he hit what I said in the title, giving the Reds a 5-4 in in 10 innings in George Grande's return to the booth on FS Ohio. Here is how it all happened.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Drew Stubbs hit a sac fly to bring in Scott Rolen, 1-0 Redlegs on top. Then, in the 7th inning, Ramon Hernandez would hit a sac fly to bring in Rolen, 2-0 Reds. Same inning, Miguel Cairo, who started in right field, hit a sac fly to bring in Gomes. So 3 sac flies in this game.
The Pirates would get on the board in the 8th, when Bowker hit an RBI double, that would plate Cedeno, 3-1 the score. Then, same inning, Jose Tabata hit an RBI single, Bowker would score, and just like that it was a 1-run-ballgame. Aroldis Chapman would then come in, and he gave up an un-earned jun when Neil Walker hit an RBI single to bring in McCutchen and Tabata, and the Buccos had a 4-3 lead.
In the 9th inning, with Drew Stubbs on 1st, Chris Heisey was the batter, he hit a double down the left field line, just fair, Stubbs scored, and the game was tied at 4.
In the 10th inning, the Pirates went in order, and then it was the Reds turn to bat. Joey Votto lead off the inning, 2-1 was the count. He hit it far. He hit it high. He hit it GOOONNNNEEEEE! Reds win in 10 innings. Second strait walk-off win, and second strait extra inning win. This was the first walk-off hit for Joseph Daniel Votto in his big league career.
Edinson Volquez did great, going 7 innings, giving up 1 hit, walking 1 and had 10 strikeouts, amazing performance.
The Cardinals lost to the Braves today, so the Reds take advantage and are 7 games up on the Cardinals, their record is 81-61. This means that the Reds have a guaranteed winning record does that sound good or what?
Tomorrow, the Reds will look for the sweep, game time is set for 1:10 PM ET and will be televised on FS Ohio.
This game may be important to the playoffs, but compared to other things, it is nothing. On this date, 9/11/01, we will never forget what happened. Let's always remember what happened.
