The Ohio State Buckeyes, who were #1 were in a tough environment, playing a tough team. They were in Madison, Wisconsin, taking on the Badgers. Wiscy jumped up early and looked like it would be a blow out, but Ohio State rallied, came with in 3, but only to lose 31-18. Here is how it all happened.
On the very first play of the game, the kickoff, David Gilreath returned it for a touchdown, 97 yards, 7-0. Then, with exactly 10 minutes to go, the great running back, John Clay, ran in for a 14 yard score, 14-0 at the end of a quarter. Early in the 2nd, John Clay would get a 1 yard touchdown run, 21-0 and the Buckeyes were looking terrible.
Ohio State would get on the board with a 21 yard field goal off the foot of Barclay, 21-3 the score at the half.
Ohio State would score first in the 3rd with a 13 yard touchdown run by Dan "Boom" Herron, it became a game all-of-a-sudden, 21-10. Then, in the 4th quarter with 11:38 to go, it was Boom with a 1 yard score, a touchdown, the Buckeye would go for 2, it was good, 21-18 the score. Don't look now, but it is a 3 point, 1 possession game.
Wisconsin would answer back though, with a touchdown and a field goal, 31-18 the final. Ohio State falls, they will go to 6-1, and have a Big Ten record of 2-1. It was a great comeback effort for the Buckeyes, but they looked absolutly terrible in the 1st half, and that is what hurt them. Wisconsin may not really be a better team than OSU, but on this night, they were.
John Clay rushed for 104 yards on 21 carries, and he was the first man to get 100+ rushing yards against the Buckeyes in 30 games.
Next, Ohio State will be hosting Purdue, who upset them last year. OSU will not be #1, but no doubt still ranked, and probably in the top 10. Game time will be at Noon ET and on the Big Ten Network.
