The 2nd ranked Buckeyes were visiting their rivals, Illinois, in the battle for the Illibuck trophy. There were a lot of Buckeye fans in Illinois, that's why some Buckeyes like to call it "Buckeye West", but the high number of traveling fans did not help Ohio State glide to a victory. It was a typical Big Ten football game, defense dominated, low scoring, and close score. Ohio State was able to remain undefeated, 5-0, as they beat the Fighting Illini, 24-13. Here is how it all happened.
Illinois scored first, when Scheelhaase ran in for a 3 yard score, 7-0 Illinois.
Ohio State would answer back on the next drive with a touchdown pass from Terrelle Pryor to Brandon Saine, an 8 yard score, 7-7 the score.
Illinois would take the lead in the 2nd quarter, with a field goal to make it 10-7. But, with only 45 seconds before the half, Terrelle Pryor connected with Dane Sanzenbacher for an 11 yard score to make it 14-10 at halftime.
There would be no scoring until the 4th quarter, with about 9 minutes to go, as Devin Barclay kicked a 32-yard field goal, 17-10 the score.
Derek Dimke would add 3 for the Fighting Illini with a 30 yard field goal, the score was 17-13.
The Bucks would pull out the dagger with about 2 minutes left, when Boom Herron got the 6 yard touchdown run, 24-13 the score, and that is how she finished.
Every Buckeye was scared when in the 3rd quarter, QB Terrelle Pryor was injured. Back-up, Joe Bauserman had to come in, but TP would return late in the 3rd quarter, it seems that he was a bit shaken up, that is why all he did was hand-off to Saine or Herron. Coach, Jim Tressel says that by next week, Terrelle "should be ready to rock-n'-roll.
Ohio State captures the Illibuck Trophy, and will come home and host the Indiana Hoosiers, Saturday at noon. That game will be televised on either ESPN or ESPN2.
