Travis Taylor is A Muskie!

Travis Taylor is headed to XU. The 6-foot-8, 200-pound sophomore from New Jersey will practice with the Musketeers next season and have two years of eligibility afterward. Last season he averaged a team-best 17.8 points and 7.6 rebounds.

He was also suspended for seven games for violating team rules. (See: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/mensbasketball/northeast/monmouth.htm)

He ultimately decided to transfer from a Hawks team that went 12-19 (8-10 Northeast Conference).

“I wanted to continue to challenge myself at a higher level and reach my maximum potential,” he said.

Taylor originally chose Boston College this summer but said those plans didn’t work out. Xavier came into the picture soon afterward, and he gave his commitment to the school after visiting the school this weekend and talking things over with his family.

He said he chose XU over Cincinnati, Miami U. and Arizona State.

“I picked Xavier for various reasons,” Taylor said. “I like the school a lot. It’s the kind of campus I’d been looking for, not too small and not too big. The coaches communicate very well and they had a good presentation to me. Players listen to them. And Xavier is a team that always wins.”

Taylor is a versatile player who can “post up and bring post players out and play on the wing,” a la Derrick Brown.

Taylor, 20, currently lives with his parents, Maxine and Ronnie, and his brother Terrance, 25. His other brother, Anthony, is 33.
