Xavier standout guard, Tu Holloway, will sit out for the first game of the season due to violating NCAA rules. This is just a secondary violation, not a big deal. All he did was play in two summer leagues, the NCAA allows you to just play in one. Seems like a dumb rule, but rules are rules.
This should not make much of a difference to the Muskies, as they will play Morgan State on November 11th, the game that Tu will miss.

Tu Holloway Is Staying At Xavier
By: Coop
Xavier guard, Tu Holloway, will stay for his senior season, the university announced late last night. Holloway announced his decision on twitter, saying "Before I leave here I will have 2 POY's 2 time AA and 2000pts 500ast 500rbs.."
Holloway had a great 2010 season, as he averaged 19.7 PPG (2nd in the A-10), 5.4 APG (1st in the A-10), and was 2nd in the conference in free throw percentage as he was successful 87% of the time.
Muskies head coach, Chris Mack said "“I think I speak for the entire Xavier Community when I say I am excited to have Tu Holloway return for his senior season. Tu Holloway’s progression as a player over the last two years has been remarkable.”
Tu Holloway was no doubt the start of the Atlantic 10, as every team feared him. Now, they will have to fear him again.

Xavier Eliminated
![]() |
| Tu Holloway prays for a miracle in Xavier's loss to Marquette. |
The Xavier Musketeers, who usually make it to at least the Sweet 16, were facing the Marquette Golden Eagles in Cleveland, Ohio. I said this game would be great, and too good for truTV. I was wrong. This game was terrible. This game shouldn't have even been televised. Xavier lost 66-55, and their season comes to a close. Seniors like Dante Jackson, Andrew Taylor, and Jamel McLean, have all finished their careers at Xavier University.
This was a very tough loss for XU. If this was a regular season game, I would not even bother to take the time to make a recap. If this was the 1st time I ever watched the Muskies, I would think they were a Division 2 team. Not a good performance for them. Pretty much the whole team played terribly, and will pack up and head back to Cincinnati tomorrow. Oh, and by the way, Xavier NEVER lead in this ballgame.
This is sad for the Seniors, as their career ends early. But one senior had a great game tonight. That man would be Andrew Taylor. Andrew only averaged 2 points per game, but in this one he had 16. Behind him was Kenny Frease who had 12, and then the Senior Dante Jackson had 10 points. The Musketeers star player, Tu Holloway, only had 5 points off the bench. I said Tu would be the key to this game, if he did not get about 20 points, X would lose, and that they did. He could have very well been the reason they lost. Or, it could have been how bad they were from the floor, only 40%, and they only had 2 3's.
So the Musketeers season is over. Tough loss. That's all I can say. I guess there is always next year.
But, even though they lost, I have to have something positive in this recap, here it is:
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE XAVIER MUSKETEERS ON A GREAT REGULAR SEASON, AND CONGRATULATIONS TO THE XAVIER SENIORS ON A GREAT CAREER AT XU.

1st Round Previews
By: Cooper Ledford
All four teams that SWO Sports covers are going dancing. One of those teams happens to be the #1 overall seed, the Ohio State Buckeyes. Then there is a #4 seed in Kentucky, and two #6 seeds in the two Cincinnati teams, Xavier and UC. I am going to preview all the games.
1Ohio State vs. 16 TX-AP/Ala State-Friday, 4:40 PM ET, TNT: Texas-San Antonio and Alabama State will play in a play-in game in Dayton, the winner of that game will face the Bucks. No matter who wins the game, it should be an easy win for Ohio State. I expect Ohio State to win this game by a ton.
Key Factor: No one, I expect Sullinger to have about 30 points, same with Buford, Deibler, etc.
Final Score Prediction: OSU wins 85-51.
4Kentucky vs. 13Princeton-Thursday, 2:45 PM ET, CBS: The SEC Champs will go against the Ivy League Champs in this one. This may not be a blowout win for UK like some think it will. I expect this game to be rather close, not really close, but still a good game to watch. I would think Kentucky would pull it off and get the win.
Key Factor: Josh Harrellson. Josh has been great as of late, he is getting rebounds like crazy and even getting points. He had a very good SEC Tournament, I expect him to carry it over into the NCAA Tournament.
Final Score Prediction: UK wins 71-63.
6Xavier vs. 11Marquette-Friday, 7:27 PM ET, truTV: This will not be a good game at all, it will be a great game. The Musketeers and Golden Eagles met up last season in the Old Spice Classic, where MU beat XU 71-61. Now Xavier is a better team while Marquette is not as good as they were. But, I still think these teams are pretty equal. I do think the Muskies will be the team to get the win though. I have no idea why this game is on truTV, it's too good for that station, it should be on at least TNT.
Key Factor: Tu Holloway. It seems like when Tu does good, the Muskies win, when he is not on his game, neither are the Muskies. Holloway needs to get about 25 points, and the Musketeers will win. Holloway is really the leader of the team.
Final Score Prediction: Xavier wins 71-68.
6Cincinnati vs. 11Missouri-Thursday, 9:50 PM ET, TNT: I think this will be a really good game to watch. Cincinnati is going dancing for the first time in quite some time, so they will want to make the tournament last as long as possible, but Mizzou is a great team that could beat the 'Cats. However, I just think the Missouri Tigers are overrated, they just don't look like a team that would be able to beat Cincy. I have the Bearcats winning this one.
Key Factor: Yancy Gates. If Yancy goes up to get rebounds, and starts getting on a routine of getting rebounds, and keeps scoring a good amount of points, Cincinnati should win. I hope to see Yancy have about 19 points or more, along with at least 5 rebounds.
Final Score Prediction: UC wins 71-61.

Xavier's Comeback Falls Short, UD Upsets XU

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Luke Fabrizius hit two free throws with 5.8 seconds to play and Dayton stunned No. 18 Xavier 68-67 in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament on Friday.
The Flyers (21-12) blew a 17-point lead in the second half and trailed by a point before Fabrizius made his foul shots.Atlantic 10 player of the year Tu Holloway's running 35-footer bounced off the backboard and the rim at the buzzer as Xavier (24-7) continued its recent run of A10 tournament woes. The Musketeers, who have made the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament each of the last three seasons, have not won a league title since 2006 despite winning or sharing the regular-season title the past five seasons.Xavier likely will get another bid to the NCAA party on Sunday.Chris Wright had 15 points to lead Dayton, which lost both regular-season meetings with Xavier. Paul Williams had 8 of his 14 in a game-opening 21-3 spurt and Chris Johnson 12 and 10 rebounds. Fabrizius finished with 10 points.Holloway, who had 23 points, held his hands on top of his head after missing at the buzzer. Mark Lyons added 14 and Jamel McLean had 11.Xavier staged a magnificent comeback after falling behind 21-3 in the opening minutes, and finding itself down 54-37 with 12:21 to play after Williams hit a 3-pointer.After that, the Musketeers started playing like the best team in the league. They eventually tied the game at 64 on a fastbreak layup by Holloway with 2:47 to play, capping a 27-10 spurt. Both teams failed to score on their next possession and Dayton eventually took a 66-64 lead on a layup by Josh Benson with 1:26 to play.Lyons missed a drive on the Musketeers' next possession and Xavier looked in trouble when they committed a foul with 36.5 seconds to go, giving Dayton another 35-second shot clock. However, the Flyers could not get the ball in play and were called for a five-second violation.Holloway drove the left side of the lane on the ensuring possession and converted a three-point play, giving Xavier its first lead at 67-66 with 23.9 seconds to go.Xavier had a foul to give and it did with 12.6 seconds. Johnson missed a jumper in the lane on the inbounds play but Fabrizius got the rebound and was fouled hard by Lyons on his way back up.Fabrizius fell hard to the floor and hit his head. For a couple of seconds there was concern he was hurt. However, he cleared his head and his free throws hit nothing but net.Holloway inbounded the ball to 7-foot center Kenny Frease on the final possession. The guard bobbled the ball momentarily taking a return pass and the lost time prevented him from taking the ball to the basket. His runner was on line but a little hard and Xavier, which lost only one game to an A10 team in the regular season, fell again in the tournament.Dayton hit eight of its first nine shots, including four 3-pointers in jumping to a 21-3 lead in the opening 7:22. Williams ignited and capped the burst with 3-pointers.3.05.2011
Xavier Ends Regular Season With Win Over SLU
By: Cooper LedfordEarlier this week, the Xavier Musketeers clinched at least a share of the A-10 Title with a win over Charlotte, and had a chance to win it outright today against Saint Louis. XU had beaten SLU earlier this season, but this time, it was in St. Louis. But, that did not matter, as the Muskies were able to beat the Billikens, 66-55.
Xavier had a strong 1st half, and lead the Billikens by 10 at halftime, 31-21. In the 2nd half, Saint Louis got back into it, and at one point they were only trailing by 3. But, Xavier was able to go on a nice run, and before you knew it, they were back up by 11, and won.
Tu Holloway had a poor performance vs. Charlotte earlier this week, but he had a very impressive game today, as he had 25 points. Mark Lyons did well too, as he had 16 points, while Kenny Frease added 10.
This was the last regular season game for players like Andrew Taylor, Dante Jackson, and Jamel McLean, but also it could be the final one for Tu Holloway, as he could be playing in the NBA next season.
Brain Conklin had 14 points for Saint Louis, while Mike McCall added 13.
So, Xavier finishes their regular season with an overall record of 24-6 and 15-1 in A-10 play, while SLU finishes 12-18 overall, and 6-10 in the A-10. A great season for XU, as they improved from last season.
Next, it is the Atlantic 10 Tournament from Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Musketeers will get a first-round BYE, and then play at noon ET on Friday against the winner of the #8 seed vs.#9 seed game. Those teams are yet to be determined, but we will tell you who they will face as soon as we know. That game will be on either FS Ohio or CBS College Sports probably.

Xavier Completes Season Sweep Of Dayton
![]() |
| Tu Holloway had 26 points in Xavier's win over Dayton, Sunday. |
DAYTON, Ohio - The No. 25 Xavier Musketeers visited hostile UD arena and picked up a victory against A-10 rival the University of Dayton Flyers, 66-62 Sunday afternoon. Junior guard Tu Holloway led all scorers as XU completed the regular season sweep on UD.
Holloway had 26 points off 8-of-17 shooting, including going an almost perfect 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. Holloway also grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists. Jamel McLean was 5-of-6 from the floor for 11 points. Mark Lyons chipped in 10 points and four assists.
With the win, the Musketeers move to 22-6 on the season and 13-1 in Atlantic 10 action. The Flyers drop to 19-10 and 7-7 in conference action. This was the third-straight conference game that UD has dropped.
Xavier finished the contest shooting 46.0 percent from the floor compared with 41.1 percent from Dayton. The teams were consistent from the free throw line, with XU going 17-of-22 (77.3 percent) and UD going 8-of-11 (72.7 percent). The Musketeers won the battle of the boards 34-31 and points in the paint 32-22. The Flyers bested the Musketeers in points off turnovers (21-14), second chance points (12-8) and fastbreak points (15-5).
The Flyers came out hot in the second half, scoring the first seven points to cut Xavier's lead to 37-32. UD would get within five of XU four more times within the half, unable to surpass the barrier until going on a 7-2 run to tie the game at 59-59 with a little under two minutes left in the contest.
Holloway was fouled with under a minute and a half and gave XU the slight two point lead, 61-59. Holloway then came back on the Musketeers' following possession and hit a critical trey to give Xavier the 64-59 advantage with 41 seconds left. Xavier would hold on for the rest of the game.
Dayton's Chris Johnson led the way for the Flyers early, scoring 14 of his 22 points in the first frame. He got two quick treys early to give UD the slight 6-2 advantage. That is when the Musketeers went on a 14-2 run to lead 16-8 with 14 minutes left in the first half. The Flyers had 13 turnovers which the Musketeers capitalized on by scoring 12 points.
The closest the Flyers would come in the first was five, but the Musketeers surged on to lead by as many as 13 points. The score at halftime saw the Musketeers up on the Flyers, 37-25. XU was 48.3 percent from the field, while UD went 9-of-25 for 36.0 percent. Dayton shot 60 percent from three-point land, connecting on six treys in the first half, while Xavier went 2-for-10.
Johnson led the way for Dayton with 22 points off 6-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-8 from behind the arc. UD's leading scorer Chris Wright, who averages 12.8 points per game, was held scoreless until the 15:18 mark of the second half. Wright would finish with 11 points.
Xavier will play its final home game on Wednesday, March 2 against the Charlotte 49ers. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.

X Scores 100, Beats La Salle, Tu Has Near Triple-Double
By: Cooper LedfordWith Jeff Robinson scoring 22 points, and being the leading scorer for the Muskies, you would think he would be the star of the game, but that would be wrong. Tu Holloway was the star (surprise-surprise), as he had 12 points, 15 assists, and 9 rebounds. So a near triple-double, what is so special about that? Well, had he gotten one more board, he would have had his second consecutive triple-double, that NEVER happens. He had a chance, until there was 3 minutes left and Coach Mack took him out. The crowd at the Cintas Center was not pleased, as they were chanting "We Want Tu!". Chris Mack did not listen. Anyways, XU beat La Salle, 100-62.
But, still a good outing for Tu Holloway. Jamel McLean also had a good outing, as he had 12 points and 5 boards, Kenny Frease had 10 points and 9 boards, and Dante Jackson had 9 points. Mark Lyons started on the bench today, as he was a bit shaken up I guess (I dunno for sure, I did not get to watch the game), but still managed to have 15 points. Jay Canty added 10 points. So 6 Muskies in double-figures. Yep, that will get you 100 points.La Salle was never in this game, I mean it was 1-0 at one point with X on top, but that was as close as it got. It was like 18-4 at one point, and 50-18, crazy. The Musketeers out-assisted the Explorers 30-9, and out-rebounded them 34-22. La Salle was only 19-53 from the floor, that will hurt ya too.
So, Xavier wins 100-64, go to 21-6, and 12-1 in the A-10, while La Salle falls to 12-16 overall, and 4-9 in the A-10.
Up next, the 1st place Muskies will go up north to take on their hated rivals, the Dayton Flyers. That game will be Sunday at 1:00 PM ET and will be on ESPN or ESPN2.

Tu's Triple-Double Leads X To Win Over Rams
![]() |
| Tu Holloway had 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in XU's win over Fordham. |
Fordham was expected to give Xavier a struggle. No just kidding, they definitely were not. But they did. Fordham was last in the conference, 0-11 in A-10 play, and had only 6 wins overall, while Xavier was in 1st place in the A-10, was 10-1 in conference play, and had 19 overall wins. So, on paper, it looked as if the Musketeers would easily beat the Rams, but that was not the case. But with a Tu Holloway triple-double, it was the Muskies who came away with a win, 79-72.
Like I said, Tu Holloway had a triple-double. He had 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Maybe he did that because he was trying to impress his mom, who was in attendance, or perhaps it was to impress Jordan Crawford or CJ Anderson, who were also in attendance. Or maybe is just good. Oh yeah, and for the record, Tu is the first Xavier player EVER to record two triple-double's in his career.
Two other Musketeers were in double figures, Mark Lyons, and Kenny Frease. Mark Lyons had 14 points and 6 boards, while Kenny had 14. Andrew Taylor added 7 points.
Chris Gaston had a great game for the Rams, as he had 26 points, and 11 rebounds. Brenton Butler had 21 points, and Alberto Estwick added 14 points.
Back to the game. You may ask "Why was Fordham even in this game? I thought they were a bad, last place team!" Well, the reason why the hang around in this one was because of their success from behind the line. The Rams were 10-22 from three-country, that is 45.5%, much better than XU as they were 4-16 and 25% from behind the line. Also, another reason was because of how good Fordham's rebounding was. They had 13 offensive rebounds, as opposed to 5 offensive rebounds for X. Fordham had 36 total boards, as opposed to 29 for the X-Men. So there you have it, that is why Fordham was even in this game.
Even though the Musketeers did not do as well as expected, they pick up the win and that is all that matters. XU is now 20-6 overall, and 11-1 in the A-10, while Fordham falls to 6-18, and 0-12 in the A-10. For Xavier, they should be in the ESPN/USA Today Coach's poll this week, as long as a top 25 team falls out of the rankings.
The 1st place Xavier Musketeers will be back in action on Tuesday, as they will host the La Salle Explorers at 7 PM ET. You can catch that game on CBS College Sports.

Muskies Beat DU, Lead A-10
![]() |
| XU's Dante Jackson tied his career-high in points with 19 in Xavier's win over Duquesne. |
The Xavier Musketeers and the Duquesne Dukes were tied for 1st place in the Atlantic 10, as they both were 8-1 in conference play. XU and DU met up in the city of Pittsburgh to determine the A-10 leader. The Dukes were favored, but it was Xavier who pulled away with a win, and move atop the A-10 by-themselves, as the final is 71-63.
Xavier lead majority of the 1st half, as they had as much as a 10 point lead with 7:40 to go, but the Dukes would fight back and take the lead before the half, 37-36.
In the 2nd half the game would go back-and-forth until there was 7:53 to go, and the Muskies went on an 8-0 run and never really looked back.
A big reason the X-Men won was because of how many free throw opportunities they got, as they had 30 chances for some free points, and were successful on 22 of them. As for the Dukes, they had their chances, 27
to be exact, but did poorly at converting them, as they shot 13-27.
Tu Holloway lead the way with 20 points, but Dante Jackson was the story of the game, as he tied a career-high with 19 points, and shot 4-6 from triple country. Kenny Frease had a double-double, as he had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jamel McLean added 10 points and 9 boards.
Let's talk about Tu Holloway. Coach Mack pulled him out of the game with a little over 11 minutes to play in the 2nd and out Mark Lyons in, as Tu was not getting the job done. Well, shortly after that, with about 11 and a half to play, Lyons fouled out, and Tu came back in, and played like the Tu we know. Perhaps Coach Mack will ask Lyons to foul out more.
B.J. Monteiro lead the way for Duquesne, as he had 17 points. Bill Clark had a double-double, as he had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Saunders added 11 points.
So, Xavier goes to 18-6 overall, and 9-1 in conference play, while DU falls to 16-7 and 8-2 in conference play.
Next, the A-10 leading Xavier Musketeers will head to the City Of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, to take on St. Joseph's. That game will be on Wednesday at 7:00 PM ET and you can catch the game on CBS College Sports.

Musketeers Stun Georgia
![]() |
| Jamel McLean goes to the glass against Georgia. Xavier ended up winning, 65-57, Tuesday. |
The Xavier Musketeers have won 6 of their last 7 games versus SEC teams, pretty impressive, huh? Well if they wanted to make it 7 of their last 8, they would have to beat a tough Georgia Bulldogs team. UGA has some nice wins on the season, their biggest was a win over Kentucky, so obviously a good team. But, Xavier must be better, because they go on the road to Athens,
Tu Holloway lead the way for X, as he had 18 points, all in the 2nd half. Tu with another impressive game, but this one is cool, because it was Tu's Day (and Tuesday).
There were 3 more Muskies in doubles, as it was Mark Lyons, who had 14, Kenny Frease, who had 12, and Jamel McLean, who had 10. Dante Jackson also added 9.
Trey Thompkins was UGA's leading-scorer, as he netted 14, and was one rebound away from a double-double. Two other Bulldogs were in double-figures, Travis Leslie, who had 13 points, and Gerald Robinson, who had 12.
So, this win will no doubt help Xavier get to the Big Dance, as it may be their biggest win of the season, and will help them receive votes in the polls. XU goes to 17-6 overall, and UGA falls to 16-7 overall.
Up next for X is a road game, as they play the Duquense Dukes. The Muskies and Dukes go at it on Sunday, at 2:00 PM ET, and you can catch the game on FS Ohio. Let's hope XU does not collapse after a big win like last time, you know, where they beat Richmond and then lost to Charlotte, yeah.

X Rebounds From Upset, Beats SLU
![]() |
| XU's Tu Holloway had 24 points in Xavier's win over Saint Louis, Saturday. |
What is a Billiken? Well Wikipedia says this: "The Billiken was a charm doll created by an American art teacher and illustrator, Ms. Florence Pretz of St. Louis, Missouri, who is said to have seen the mysterious figure in a dream." No matter what it is, Xavier beat the Billikens of Saint Louis University, 76-68. The Musketeers needed this win, as they were coming off of an upset-loss to Charlotte. Xavier was 15-6 entering this game, and 7-1 in the Atlantic 10, while SLU was 8-13 overall and 3-5 in the A-10. Since XU won, they go to 16-6 overall and 8-1 in the A-10, while the Billikens fall to 8-14 overall and 3-6 in the A-10.
There were four Musketeers in double-figures, Tu Holloway (surprised?), Mark Lyons, Kenny Frease, and Jamel McLean.
Tu had 24 points, Lyons had 15, Frease had 12, and McLean had 11. In the 1st half, Kenny Frease was the man, as he had 12 points, but in the 2nd half, he was cooled down as he was left blank, but still had a good game with those 12 points. Also, Dante Jackson should not be over looked, as he had a good game, and added 8 points.
SLU's leading scorer was Brian Conklin, as he had 24 points. There was one more Billiken in doubles, as it was Rob Loe, as he had 18 points.
Last week, Xavier got a ton of votes to be ranked, but I highly doubt they will be ranked come Monday, I think that loss to the 49ers really hurt their chances at a number in-front of their name. However, I still expect them to get some votes, and a pretty decent number of votes.
The Muskies are in 2nd place, as of now, in the Atlantic 10, as the Dukes of Duquesne are atop the conference as they are 16-5 overall and 8-0 in the A-10. Xavier fans, you can hope for DU to lose today, as they are in action, as they travel to the State of New York to take on St. Bonny. If the Dukes lose, the X-Men will be tied for the top spot in the Atlantic 10.
Next, the Musketeers travel to Athens, Georgia to take on the UGA Bulldogs. This will be a tough game for the Muskies no doubt. That would be a nice win for X, so hopefully they will win it. That game is Tuesday (hope it will be more like Tu's Day), at 7:00 PM ET and will be on ESPNU.

Tu Nets 33, Xavier Thumps Richmond

| Tu Holloway had a career-high 33 points in XU's win over Richmond. Tu also now has over 1,000 points in his college career. |
The five top dogs in the Atlantic 10 are: Xavier, Duquesne, Temple, Dayton, and Richmond. The Musketeers had already beaten Dayton and Temple, and will play the Dukes of Duquesne on the 13th of February, as for Richmond, well, they were playing them today. Richmond was 15-6 overall, and 5-1 in A-10 play, while Xavier was 14-5 overall, and 6-0 in A-10 play. This game was in Virginia at the Robins Center, which is a very tough place to play. Xavier was able to pick up the win, in blow-out fashion, as they won, 85-62.
Xavier's has many road games on their upcoming schedule, as they play 4 of their next 6 games away from the Centas Center. Why am I saying this? Well, because if they can win at Richmond, they should be able to win majority of the other road games. The one place that stands out is a non-conference game, as they travel to Georgia to take on the Bulldogs on the 8th. That could be the only road loss in the next few games.
Anyways, back to the game, Xavier's Tu Holloway lead the way with 33 points, a career high, and also now has over 1,000 points in his college career, also, he was 3 rebounds away from a double-double, as he had 7 boards. Holloway played a lot of the game, 37 minutes, as did Dante Jackson.
There were two other Muskies in double-digits, Kenny Frease, and Mark Lyons. The Big Ken had 19 points, along with 6 boards, and Lyons had 14 points.
The Spiders had 4 players in double-figures: Harper, Geriot, Anderson, and Brothers.
A big reason why the X-Men won this game was their rebounding. XU out-rebounded Richmond 41-25.
So, Xavier wins 85-62, and go to 15-5, 7-0 in the A-10, while Richmond falls to 16-6 and 5-2 in the A-10. Xavier just might get into the top 25, you never know, they will at least receive a decent number of votes.
Up next, the Musketeers will go to Charlotte, North Carolina, to take on the 49ers. That game is Wednesday at 7:30 PM ET and you can catch it on FS Ohio.
