Cincinnati Defeats Oakland 4-2
Bronson Arroyo becomes the first Reds pitcher to seven wins with a 4-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics. Bronson Arroyo went 8 innings and gave up just two earned runs. Dallas Braden who threw a perfect game earlier this season vs the Tampa Bay Rays received the loss going 6 innings and giving up 6 earned runs. Francisco Cordero recorded his 18th save of the season.
The Reds got going early int he 2nd inning with a Corky Miller single that scored Jonny Gomes and Jay Bruce. 2-0 Reds. In the top of the 3rd inning, Joey Votto doubled to right field scoring Brandon Phillips to give the Reds a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Coco Crisp hits a 2-run home run to right center field scoring Cliff Pennington. 3-2 Reds. In the top of the 5th, Drew Stubbs reached on a throwing error by SS Cliff Pennington and Scott Rolen scored.
The Reds will head into game 3 already sealing up the series win vs the A's and will look for the sweep. Johnny Cueto (6-2, 4.30) will face off against Vin Mazzaro (2-1, 5.22) in a 3:35 PM ET start time. Radio broadcast only.
