The Cincinnati Reds and free agent OF Gary Matthews Jr. agreed to a minor league contract and he will report to AAA Louisville immediately. He was cut by the New York Mets in mid-June after batting just .190 and only 1 RBI. This move provides the Bats with some outfield depth and can give the Reds some veteran experience if called upon later in the season. In 2006, he joined his father Gary Matthews Jr. as the 11th father-son duo to play in an MLB All-Star game. Gary Matthews Jr. is a career .257 hitter with 108 home runs, 484 RBI's, and and 95 stolen bases in 4103 career at-bats over the course of 11 seasons.
