20 years ago the Reds swept the Oakland A's four games to none to with the World Series in 1990. The Reds will sweep the A's again with a 3-0 victory and after getting swept in Seattle, the Reds go .500 on this road trip. Johnny Cueto was brilliant today on the mound. Cueto went seven innings giving up zero runs and had four strikeouts. This was his 2nd great start on this road trip after a good game last Friday in Seattle where he got outdueled 1-0 by Cliff Lee. Vin Mazzaro threw well for the A's today going seven innings and giving up just two earned runs. Francisco Cordero picked up his 19th save of the season. Overall, this was a great pitching series for both the Cincinnati Reds and the Oakland Athletics.
The Reds would get going early in the top of the first inning when Jay Bruce singled to right fielder Gabe Gross that scored Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips. The Reds would take a 2-0 lead. Jonny Gomes in the top of the 8th inning hit his 14th double of the year to left fielder Rajai Davis and scored Joey Votto. The Reds would take a 3-0 lead and that would be all they would need to get the victory and complete the sweep over the Oakland Athletics. The Reds will be off tomorrow and will resume play Friday back at home for the Battle of the Ohio Cup as they face off against the Cleveland Indians.
