Three Wildcats Declare For NBA Draft

By:  Coop

Kentucky junior, DeAndre Liggins and freshmen Terrence Jones and Brandon Knight have all entered their name in the NBA Draft.  None of the three have announced that they have, or plan to, sign with an agent yet.

Liggins was great on defense for UK last year.  He was often times guarding the other team's scoring threat, and did pretty well.  He was also decent on offense, as he averaged 8.6 points per game, 4 rebounds a game, and shot about 39% from 3-point range.  He was also noticed for his talents, as he named to the Lefty Drieseel Defensive All-America Team, he was also named SEC Defensive Player of the year by Yahoo! and by the coaches.

"I am excited about the opportunity to enter my name in the draft, putting me one step closer to realizing my dream." Liggins said.

Terrence Jones, the Freshman from Portland, Oregon was a great all-around player last season.  He averaged 15.7 points per game, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks.  Terrence lead the SEC in double-doubles with 13, and lead the way in rebounds.  He was ranked sixth in blocks, and seventh in scoring.  He was also noticed for his talents, as he was named the SEC Freshman of the Year by the Associated Press.

Jones said "This will be a great chance for me to measure my skills against some of the best in the country and receive additional information on where I fit into this year's draft."

Brandon Knight, the freshman from Fort Lauderdale, lead the Wildcats in scoring with 17.3 points per game, that is 4th in the league.  Knight averaged 4.2 assists per game, which was 2nd in the SEC.  He also broke two records at UK, the freshman scoring record (657 points), and the UK freshman 3-point record (87 3's). He was named a fifth-team All-American by FoxSports.com.

"Playing in the NBA has always been a dream of mine and this is the next step." Brandon said.

Coach Cal added some comments on his player's decisions saying that he "supports the decision these three have made" and also said "They were a joy to coach this year...".

Good luck to all three Wildcats in the National Basketball Association, and congratulations on a great season, and career at the University of Kentucky.
