The Cincinnati Reds acquired veteran outfielder Jim Edmonds from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Chris Dickerson. The move gives the Reds veteran depth off the bench but not much more than that. Chris Dickerson who was expected to be a part of the Reds outfield for a long time was probably moved to free up space jammed in the Reds outfield that contains Jay Bruce, Jonny Gomes, Laynce Nix, Drew Stubbs, Chris Heisey, and now Jim Edmonds. Edmonds will not fit into the Reds long term plans like Dickerson may have. This move could have been made to allow Chris Heisey more playing time in the future and perhaps we may see Reds #1 prospect Yonder Alonso make a move to left field. Chris Dickerson who was on the disabled list currently on a rehab assignment at AAA Louisville where he was tearing the ball up will now be part of the Milwaukee Brewers outfield when he returns from the bereavement list due to his Grandmother's death.
Edmonds is most known as a St. Louis Cardinal and his stellar defense in center field. In St. Louis, Edmonds, Albert Pujols, and current Red Scott Rolen were once known as the "MV3" because they were all stars and poised a major threat in the Cardinals line up. Jim Edmonds joins Russ Springer, Jason Isringhausen, and Scott Rolen as the 4th Ex-St. Louis Cardinal brought in by the former Cardinals General Manager, Walk Jocketty. Edmonds sit out last season and made a comeback with the Brewers this season where he is hitting .286 with 8 home runs and 20 RBI's. His best season was in 2004 when he hit 42 home runs, drove in 111 runs, and stole eight bases.
