The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when Ramon Hernandez singled to centerfielder Marlon Byrd and Drew Stubbs scored on the play to give the Reds a 1-0 lead. Chicago would tie the game later that inning when Derrek Lee hit a sac fly to right fielder Jay Bruce and Kosuke Fukodome scored the tying run. The game would remain tied 1-1 until the top of the 8th inning when Drew Stubbs went deep to left center field for his 14th homer of the season to give the Reds a 2-1 lead. Stubbs would have a brilliant day going 3-for-4 after a few days off hitting in the batting cages with hitting coach Brook Jacoby trying to get Drew's timing back on his swing. Paul Janish singled to left fielder Alfonso Soriano and Bronson Arroyo who came into to pinch run for Ramon Hernandez scored. Reds lead it, 3-1.
In the top of the 9th inning, Drew Stubbs hit a single to left field scoring Laynce Nix and the Reds would go up by three. Francisco Cordero came on in the bottom of the 9th to nail down the save. He would not be successful at doing so. Cordero came in and recorded just one out and loading the bases walking Blake DeWitt, Mike Fontenot, and Kosuke Fukodome. Starlin Castro would get hit by a pitch and Cordero would walk a run in. Blake DeWitt scored off of the hit bastman. Nick Masset walked Aramis Ramirez and allowed one more run to score, that being Mike Fontenot but he would hold on to get the save. Reds win it 4-3.
