The Cincinnati Bearcats were in the Big East Quarterfinals in New York City, their opponent was a team that beat them earlier this season, and a team that is trying to get a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. That team was the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Well, UC did not look very good, as they lost 89-51.
The Bearcats leading scorer was Dion Dixon, who had 15 points, behind him was Yancy Gates, who had 12 points and added 9 boards. Dixon and Gates were the only two Bearcats in double digits, that would explain why they only scored 51 points as a team.
Notre Dame had 4 players in double-figures. Ben Hansbrough had 23 points, Carleton Scott had 18, Tim Abromaitis had 17, and Scott Martin had 11.
Besides how good the players did getting points, a big reason the Irish won was because of how many assist they had. ND had 22 assists, while Cincinnati had only 9. Notre Dame also out-rebounded Cincy 35-28, not that much of a difference, but you know, just a fact.
With this, UC suffers their 8th loss of the year and fall to 25-8. The Catholics go to 26-5. So the 'Cats are eliminated from the Big East Tournament, but that's okay because they will still make the NCAA Tournament, that is pretty safe to say.
