By: Cooper LedfordAlright, so just today I found out that Xavier Head Coach, Chris Mack, was offered an 8-year deal worth $2 million a year. This went under the radar, and I'd say not too many people knew about this.
As a Xavier fan, I would like to say "Thank You" to Coach Mack. This proves that he is committed to Xavier. For now.
Why do I say "for now", you ask? Well, say for some odd reason Coach Cal leaves Kentucky (never going to happen, but just go with it), or Thad leaves Ohio State, or Coach K leaves Duke, then UK, OSU, or Duke offer Mack a deal, I am pretty sure he would take it. I think just about anyone would take a big-name program in a major conference over a small Catholic school in a mid-major conference.
But, that needs to change. Someone needs to come to Xavier, keep up the good program, have a really good season, like a Final 4 season, then more kids will want to come to X. Then suddenly the next season is here and you are back in the Final 4, and more kids want to come to put on a Musketeer uniform. Then next-thing-you-know, you are one of the best recruiting schools in the nation, and you have big-time names playing for the Muskies. Now, you are a powerhouse, all because one coach didn't leave to go to a bigger school. And who knows, that coach might be Chris Mack.
