Reds Lose, But Reds Win

By:  Cooper Ledford

The Cincinnati Reds had a slip-squad game today.  That means half of the team went to play one game, the other half went to play another.  There was no particular way they were separated, just randomly.

So, the Reds that played the Angels had Votto at 1st, Phillips at 2nd, Janish at short, Francisco at 3rd, Hanigan as catcher, Cueto pitching, Jeremy Hermida in right, Sappelt in center, and Fred Lewis in left.  Well, they lost 2-1, but here are some notes from the game.

  • Johnny Cueto looked good in the 3 innings he pitch, except when he needed to find the lat two outs in the 3rd.  He did fall behind in the count a lot, but was able to come back and get them out.  But, he did have some control issues, as he hit two batters.
  • Logan Ondrusek looked good in his outing, as he had a 1,2,3 inning.
  • Dave Sappelt looked good once again, as he had a lead-off single.
  • Joey Votto had 1 single, which was an RBI single, plating the Reds only run.

Now, for the Reds that played the A's, well they won 7-6.  I did not watch, not listen, to this game.  So, I really do not know who all started the game. I do know that Mike Leake did, but that's it.  But, I still have some notes from the game.

  • Mike Leake went 2 innings, gave up 2 hits, and 1 run.
  • Jordan Smith got the win, as he went 2 innings, giving up only 1 hit.
  • Matt Klinker got the save, as he pitched 3 innings, have up 5 runs, 3 earned, 4 hits, 1 walk, and fanned 2.
  • Johnny Gomes hit a home run, as did Yonder Alonso.
Up next for the Redlegs, they will head back to the comfy confines of Goodyear, and get back to playing as one team.  They will play tomorrow against the Chicago White Sox at 3:05 PM ET.  This game will not be televised, but you can listen to the game on 700 WLW.
