The Reds were back in the comfy confines of Goodyear, Arizona, as they were playing host to the Chicago White Sox. The Reds were 2-2 in Spring Training Games, while the Sox that are white were 0-2. The Reds made Chicago's record even worse, as Cincinnati wins it, 7-6. Here is how.
It was a scoreless game until the bottom of the 5th, when Fred Lewis hit an RBI single to center, Drew Stubbs would score, 1-0 Reds. Then, while Jaun Francisco was at-bat, Chicago pitcher, Kyle Cofield, threw a wild pitch, that would bring in Chris Heisey, 2-0. Same inning, Jeremy Hermida hit a 2-run jack to right, and it was a 5 run 5th inning for the Reds.
The White Sox would answer back in the top of the 6th when Paul Konerko hit an RBI single to plate Pierre. Then, same inning, Carlos Quentin hit an RBI single to bring in Beckham, 5-2 the score. They were still not done though, as they would add one more run off of an A.J. Pierzynski RBI ground-out to plate Quentin, 5-3 the score.
Cincinnati was unhappy with the game being close, so they decided to get a run in the bottom of the 6th. Well, at least Kris Negron (never heard of him either) did. Kris hit an RBI double to bring in Dorn, and the Reds had a 6-3 lead.
In the top of the 7th, the South-Siders would add 2 runs when Jim Gallagher hit a 2 RBI single to bring in Morel and Jared Price. The score was now 6-5. Those 2 runs were scored off Arredondo BTW (by-the-way). Dusty was unhappy with that, so he brought in Daryl Thompson. Well, he gave up a run too, thanks to a bases-loaded walk. So, the score was tied at 6.
But have no fears, Devin Mesoraco is here. He hit a solo home run in the 8th, making the score 7-6 with the Reds on top, and that is all it would take.
Homer Bailey looked very good, as he went 2 innings giving up 1 hit, and no runs. Danny Ray Herrera (remember him?) looked good as well. The Giant man (just kidding) went 1 inning, walked 1, and fanned 1. Fisher and Arredondo were the only two pitchers that looked somewhat bad, as they both gave up 3 runs. Thompson ends up being the winner, as he went 2.1 innings, giving up 3 hits, walked 1, and struck-out 2.
Tomorrow, the Redlegs will play host to the Dodgers at 9:05 PM ET, yes, a late game. There will be no TV on that, and I am unsure if it will be on the radio.
