In an exciting battle between two 1-0 teams, the defending CIFL league champions defeated host Marion 50-44 to improve to 2-0. The loss dropped The Blue Racers to 1-1.
Marion jumped out to a quick 6-0 before the Commandos scored 23 unanswered points to take a 23-6 lead. In the final 22 seconds of the first half, Marion scored two touchdowns to Cincinnati’s one touchdown to take a 30-20 lead into intermission. Cincinnati opened the second half by taking the opening possession for a score to lead 37-20. Marion scored two touchdowns to close the gap to 37-34 after three quarters. To open the fourth quarter, the Commandos added to quick scores to go up 50-34. Marion added a touchdown and field goal but it was not enough as Cincinnati won 50-44.
Cincinnati was led by quarterback Tyler Sheehan by completing 24 of 36 passes for 237 yards and four touchdowns and one interception. His top receiver was Greg Moore was six receptions for 72 yards followed by Moe Lee for three completions for 47 years. George Murray caught five passes for 39 yards and three touchdowns. Moore led the team in rushing with 55 yards on 14 carries.
The host Blue Racers were led by quarterback Josh Harris, who completed 12 of 22 passes for 115 yards and four touchdowns. His top target was Mike Tatum, who had three receptions and two touchdowns. Jerard Bennett was four receptions for 31 yards. The top rusher was Antonio Well s with one attempt for four yards.
Next week, the Commandos return home to host the 0-2 Indianapolis Enforcers. Marion has the week off.
