Laynce Nix signed a minor league contract today with the Reds and will go into spring training battling for a spot on the 25-man active roster. Jonny Gomes has filed for free agency. The Reds hope to still be able to get a deal done with Gomes even though he's open to all teams to sign anywhere. No worries yet though because the Reds have been in this position a lot over the years with Rich Aurillia, David Weathers, and Jerry Hairston Jr. Former Houston Astros utility player Chris Burke has signed a minor league contract with the Reds hoping to win a roster spot during Spring Training.
