Xavier needs improvemet, loss to Kansas State

By: Cooper Ledford

The Xavier Musketeers traveled to Manhattan, Kansas to play the Kansas State Wildcats. XU looked bad on both sides, ofense and defense. There is no doubt in my mind that Xavier is worse than last year. The Wildcats beat the X-men 71-56.

Sophomores, Brad Redford and Jordan Crawford lead the Muskies in points, both with 16. The leading rebounder for XU was Jamel McLean with seven.

Both teams struggled to get their offense going in the early part of the contest as Xavier (5-3) held the 7-4 margin after a jumper from sophomore Kenny Frease at the 14:08 mark. A three-pointer from Crawford gave XU's its last lead of the first half, 17-16, with 7:12 remaining in the frame.
Outside of a free throw from junior Andrew Taylor, the Musketeers were held scoreless for nearly six minutes until Redford sank two free throws with just over 45 seconds left. Kansas State (8-1) headed into the locker room with a 10-point advantage, 30-20. Six Musketeers had tallied two or three fouls in the first half as XU committed 14 fouls to KSU's nine.

KSU had the lead the rest of the game, and won.

XU is now 5-3, KSU is 8-1. Next up for the X-men will be the Cincinnati Bearcats, Sunday. The game is at 7:00PM ET and will be on ESPNU.
