Bearcats Fall In Opener

By:  Cooper Ledford

The Cincinnati Bearcats went 12-0 in the regular season last year, and they were trying to start another perfect season.  If they were to do that, they would have to beat Fresno State.  UC beat FSU last year, and looked like they would again this year, as they lead 14-0 early on, but the Bulldogs scored 28 unanswered points, as they beat Cincinnati, 28-14.  Here is how it all happened.

With 02:38 to go in the 1st quarter, Zach Collaros found DJ Woods in the endzone for a 23 yard touchdown pass, that made it 7-0 with the 'Cats on top.  Then, in the 2nd quarter, Collaros ran for a touchdown, a 5 yard score, 14-0 UC on top.

The Bulldogs would get on the board when Robbie Rouse caught a 20 yard touchdown pass from Colburn, 14-7 the score.  Then, 16 seconds left before halftime, Colburn connected with Hamler for a 16 yard touchdown pass, and we were tied at 14 at the half.

In the 2nd half, it was all Fresno State.  FSU scored twice, once in the 3rd quarter, and once in the 4th.  Both scores were touchdown passes.  The one in the 3rd was Colburn finding Wylie for a 28 yard score, the 4th quarter score was Colburn finding Evans for a 59 yard touchdown pass.

Collaros did good, as he went 24/42, had 1 passing TD and 1 rushing TD off of 219 yards.  But, his big problem was how he did under pressure.  He was sacked way too many times, and he fumbled quite a bit.

Next, Cincy will look to get back on track as they will host Indiana State.  Game time is set for noon ET on Saturday.  The game will be televised on Fox Sports Ohio.
