Wildcats Top Cardinals

By:  Cooper Ledford

The Kentucky Wildcats were in Louisville, taking on there rivals, the Cardinals, in the first game of the season.  UK was looking to start off the season in a positive way, and that they did.  Kentucky ends up winning 23-16.  A big part of the 'Cats success was Hartline's 217 passing yards, and Locke 2 touchdowns.  Here is how all of it happened.

UK scored first, as Derrick Locke ran for a 32 yard score, but the extra point was failed, 6-0 the score.  That was just about 40 seconds into the game.  The Wildcats would score again with 52 seconds left in the first quarter, as Locke ran it in from a yard out, that made it 13-0.

Louisville would get on the board in the 2nd quarter, with 14:52 to go, when Chris Philpott nailed a 44 yard field goal.  13-3 the score.

Kentucky would answer back, however, when Randall Cobb ran for a 51 yard touchdown, the extra point was good, and the Cats had a 20-3 lead.  After a Cardinals field goal, the halftime score was 20-6 with UK on top.

Into the second half we go.  UK would only score once in the 2nd half, and that was with 08:52 to go, when Tydlacka kicked a 41 yard field goal, the score was 23-6.

Louisville would score in the 3rd as well, when Powell ran for an 80 yard touchdown, the score was 23-13.  In he 4th, L'ville would kick a field goal from 27 yards out, that made it 23-16, and that is how she finished.

Next, the Wildcats will head home and take on Western Kentucky.  That game will be on Saturday at 7:30 PM ET and will be televised on on CCS.
