Reds Crush Astros

By:  Cooper Ledford

The Reds were trying to even the series at a game apiece with the Astros, to do that, Bronson Arroyo would have to pitch a good game, as he was seeking win number 16, which would be a career high for the high-kicking righty.  Bronson was able to get that win, as the Redlegs dominated the Houston Astros, 11-1.  Here is how it all happened.

Houston got on the board first, in the 2nd, when Carlos Lee hit his 23rd homer of the year, 1-0 the score.

The Reds would tie it up in the 3rd when Orlando Cabrera hit an RBI single to plate Arroyo.  Then, the Reds would take the lead 2 batters later, when Scott Rolen hit an RBI single to bring in Cabrera, 2-1 the score.  Then, in the top of the 4th, Jim Edmonds hit a solo shot to left, his 10th of the season, 3-1 the score.

Edmonds would not be the only man on the team that went deep, Jay Bruce did in the 5th as he hit a 2-run home run, his 21st long ball of the year, 5-1.  The Reds would get 2 more runs in that 5th inning.  Ryan Hanigan hit an RBI single to score Edmonds, and Arroyo hit a sac fly to plate Stubbs. 7-1 the score.

Speaking of Drew Stubbs, in the 7th inning, guess what he did?  He done hit a long en' over dat fence.  His 19th of the year and the score was 8-1.  In the 9th, the Reds got some more insurance, as Hanigan hit an RBI double to bring Bruce home, 9-1.  Then, Yonder Alonso hit a 2 RBI single, 11-1 the score, and that is how it ended.

Bronson Arroyo is the winner as he went 6 innings, gave up 4 hits, 1 run, walked one, and fanned 5.  Congratulations to Bronson on getting a career high 16th win!

Also, the Cardinals lost, so the Reds are back to 7 games up, and the magic number is now at 8.

Tomorrow the Reds will play in the rubber game, game time is set for 2:05 PM ET and will be televised on FS Ohio.  Watch as Travis Wood (5-3, 3.46 ERA) and the Reds will take on Brett Myers (12-7, 2.85 ERA) and the 'Stros.
