Reds End Fishing Trip With a Sweep

By:  Cooper Ledford

The Cincinnati Reds were trying to finish off the Marlins, with a sweep.  But, the only way they could do that is if Homer Bailey could have a good outing, as he was pitching rather than Johnny Cueto, as Cueto was still serving his suspension.  Homer Bailey did great, going 6 shut out innings.

It was a scoreless game until the 6th inning, with 1 on and 2 out, and Miguel Cairo was batting.  Cairo just got enough of the baseball, hitting it to left filed for his 4th home run of the season, and the score was 2-0.

Then, in the top of the 7th inning, the Reds were in a jam, bases loaded with 2 men out, the pitcher was Logan Ondrusek, the batter was Chad Tracy, and Ondrusek fanned him to get out of the jam.  So that would keep the score at 2-0.  Turns out, that would be all it took for the Redlegs to get the W.

The Reds would not win without some sweat and a threat in the 9th (Cordero was pitching, so what else is new?) There was runners on the corners with 2 outs, the batter was Donnie Murphy, but Coco was able to get him lookin' and Cordero gets save number 32 and the Reds get their 67th win of the year, and are 16 games over .500.  The Reds have been involved in a sweep in each of the last three series, swept the Cubs, then got swept by the Cardinals, and now sweep the Fish.

Homer Bailey went 6 innings, gave up only 3 hits, no runs, did not walk a batter, and fanned 4 off of 102 pitches.  So a great outing from Homer Bailey and he gets the win.

The Cardinals, who were tied with the Reds for 1st place at the beginning of the game, are losing to Chicago 8-2 in the 6th inning.  If the Cubs hold on to win (hope they do), the Reds will be 1 game ahead of the Cards for 1st PLACE IN THE NL CENTRAL.

Tomorrow, the Reds are off, and then begin a 9 game road trip, their first stop is in the desert, as they will take on the Arizona Diamondbacks.  It will be Bronson Arroyo (12-7, 3.94 ERA) on the hill for Cincinnati, and for the D-Backs, it will be Daniel Hudson (3-0, 1.59 ERA).  Game time is set for 9:40 PM ET, and will be televised on FS Ohio.

So the Reds win, now the Bengals need to get revenge on the Broncos (remember that heart breaking loss last year in week 1?) and get the win, and look at that, the Cincinnati teams are undefeated today.
