Reds Win Game, Series

By:  Cooper Ledford

While Jonny Gomes is still in search of home run number 100, he is not the only Red looking for 100, as Bronson Arroyo was a win away from career win number 100.  To get that century win,  he would have to beat the Dodgers, in LA, which he had never done before, until now.  The high-kicking righty, Arroyo out-dueled the Dodgers lefty, Clayton Kershaw, giving the Reds a 5-3 win.  Here is how it all happened.

In the top of the 1st, with the bases loaded and 2 outs, Ryan Hanigan delivered with a 2 RBI single to plate Phillips and Votto, and just like that, the Reds had a 2-0 lead.

Los Angeles would cut the lead in half in the 2nd, when Matt Kemp hit his 21st long ball of the season, this one to center, and it was 2-1.  LA would tie it up in the 5th, when A.J. Ellis hit an RBI single to bring in Blake, 2-2 the score.  That tie game would not last very long though.

In the Reds half of the 6th, Joey Votto hit a solo home run, his 29th of the year, this one to left, and the MVP candidate gave his club a 3-2 lead.  That was all the Redlegs would need, but for the heck of it, they would get more.  Joey Votto was at it again in the top of the 9th, the bases were loaded with 2 outs, and Votto did it, he hit a grand slam. Ha ha, just kidding, he hit a 2 RBI single, as Janish and Bruce scored, 5-3 the score, and that is how she finished.  But, not without sweat and a threat  a 1-2-3 inning from Francisco Cordero,

With this win, the Reds are now 72-52, 20 games over .500, and remain 3.5 games ahead of St. Louis for 1st place in the NL Central.  Bronson Arroyo gets the win, as I said, as he went 7 solid innings, giving up 7 hits, 2 runs, did not walk anyone, and fanned 6.

Tomorrow, is my 1st day of school, but more importantly, the Reds will travel to AT&T park, where they will take on Aubrey Huff and the San Francisco Giants.  Game time is set for 10:15 PM ET, and will be televised on FS Ohio and ESPN2.  The pitching match up will be Edinson Volquez (3-1, 4.98 ERA) for the Reds against Matt Cain (9-10, 3.11 ERA).

ONCE AGAIN, CONGRATULATIONS TO BRONSON ARROYO ON WINNING CAREER GAME NUMBER 100.
