Reds Top Dodgers

Article from: kellstarbreakingnews.webs.com-Kellstar L.A. from my good friend Chris. I was too tired to make a recap.  Dumb west coast trips.

Dodgers vs Reds Recap 8/20/10: Brandon Phillips all the offense for the Reds, Dodgers bats remain silence once again

Dodgers take on the Reds this series for a 3 game set after a series victory over the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers had to place Vicente Padilla on the DL again and he's been tremendous since the all-star break but just like Chad Billingsley no run support. So the Dodgers had to throw out Carlos Monasterios while thew Reds had Homer Bailey who is filling in for Johnny Cueto because of his 7 game suspension. The Reds got on the board first though on a two out hit by Brandon Phillips into left field scoring Ryan Hanigan and already 2 inning through 5 hits allowed by Monasterios But in the bottom of the 3rd inning 1st and 2nd for the Dodgers and Monasterios with 2 strikes gets the bunt down and moves the runners over. Theriot would drive in the Dodgers 1st run on a 2 out hit and the Dodgers tied it at 1-1. But in the 4th inning the Dodgers committed 2 huge errors on a throwing error by Monasterios and then a fielding error by James Loney and good teams like the Reds take advantage of mistakes and it came back to haunt the Dodgers not just for the inning but the rest of the game. Brandon Phillips with Hanigan and Stubbs on and again with 2 outs Brandon Phillips smoked one right up the middle giving the Reds a 3-1 lead and that's all Bailey needed. He would go on and pitch 6 quality inning 1 ER on 4 hits allowed and 6 Ks. The Reds bullpen was lights out scoreless innings by Rhodes and Cordero. Dodgers lose again and there offense remains silence again. When the Dodgers do win its a great pitching performance by there SP but the Dodgers pitchers are keeping them in the game. The Reds continue to play well since that embarrassment vs the Cardinals and all of a sudden the Reds are 4.5 games up on the Cardinals. And for the Dodgers... who really cares? A inconsistent ball club that's offense has been horrendous the whole month of August and a 37 year old Manny Ramirez coming off the DL wont solve there problems. Game 2 tomorrow night at 7:05 PT, 10:05 ET( I feel sorry for the East coast fans watching there team at 10PM in the 1st inning) On KCAL 9 Vin Scully with the Call. For the Reds FS Ohio at 10:05. Johnny Cueto returns from his suspension vs Chad Billingsley who's been great of late but just like every other Dodger pitcher of late, no run support.  Also, the Cardinals lost to San Francisco, and the Reds are now on a 7 game winning streak, 20 games over .500, and have a 4.5 game lead over St. Louis for 1st place in the NL Central.

8/21/10 Pitching Match up: Chad Billingsley (9-7 3.66 ERA) vs Johnny Cueto (11-3 3.38 ERA)
